We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Truck and Trailer Mechanic to join our maintenance team in Dearborn Heights, Michigan. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining heavy-duty trucks, trailers, and fleet equipment while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards. Position Summary The Truck and Trailer Mechanic will be responsible for inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing, and performing preventive maintenance on a fleet of tractors, trailers, and related equipment. The successful candidate must be capable of independently diagnosing mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues to minimize downtime and maximize fleet reliability. Key ResponsibilitiesMaintenance & Repairs Perform preventive maintenance inspections and repairs on heavy-duty trucks and trailers. Diagnose and repair engine, transmission, suspension, steering, brake, electrical, fuel, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems. Conduct routine servicing including oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and component inspections. Repair and replace brakes, wheel seals, bearings, air systems, and suspension components. Perform welding, fabrication, and structural repairs when required. Troubleshoot and repair ABS systems, lighting systems, and electrical wiring issues. Repair trailer components including doors, flooring, roofs, liftgates, landing gear, and refrigeration units if applicable. Conduct tire inspections, replacements, balancing, and alignments as required. Inspections & Compliance Perform DOT/Federal annual inspections and safety inspections. Ensure all work complies with FMCSA, DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards. Maintain accurate repair records, inspection reports, and maintenance logs. Identify and report safety concerns or recurring mechanical issues. Assist in maintaining fleet readiness and regulatory compliance. Fleet Operations Support Respond to emergency roadside breakdowns when required. Work closely with dispatch, operations, and drivers to resolve equipment issues promptly. Prioritize maintenance activities to minimize equipment downtime. Assist with inventory management of parts, tools, and maintenance supplies. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment. Required Qualifications High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent. Minimum 3 years of experience as a Truck and Trailer Mechanic working on Class 8 trucks and commercial trailers. Strong knowledge of diesel engines and truck/trailer systems. Experience diagnosing and repairing: Engines Transmissions Braking systems Electrical systems Suspension systems Hydraulic and pneumatic systems Ability to use computerized diagnostic software and scan tools. Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record. Ability to work independently and manage multiple repair priorities. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work in a physically demanding environment. Preferred Qualifications ASE Certifications (Medium-Heavy Truck Certification preferred). CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) is considered a strong asset. Experience working with Freightliner, Volvo, International, Kenworth, Peterbilt, Mack, and Detroit Diesel engines.
