The Transportation Worker 1 Equipment Operator, under general supervision, will perform entry-level functions, working in the construction and maintenance of highways. Duties include: Driving a light truck or vehicle during regular operation as well as during snow removal and ice control (SRIC). Operating various equipment such as a fork truck, end loader, skid steer, rollers, utility tractor, brush chipper, as well as various hand tools. May fill in answering telephone and radio calls during SRIC. May be responsible for transporting materials or fuel to equipment. Providing traffic control by flagging on job sites. Selected applicants may be exposed to hazardous working conditions and inclement weather. Performs other related duties as required. District 8 includes Randolph, Tucker, Pendleton, and Pocahontas counties.
• Knowledge of general safety procedures.
• Knowledge of methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and other motor-driven equipment.
• Knowledge of the operation of motor-driven equipment.
• Skill in the use of tools and equipment used in the repair of motor-driven equipment. Ability to diagnose minor mechanical problems and determine appropriate procedures for repair.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to learn from example and work cooperatively with others.
• Ability to maintain routine records (timecards, repair work orders).
