The Transportation Technician with the Department of Transportation, Lycoming County, supports important drafting and design work. DESCRIPTION OF WORK This position supports roadway design by preparing plans, completing drafting assignments, and assisting with technical calculations for minor highway projects. It involves using CADD software, interpreting survey data, and contributing to design work from early sketches through final plans. As a Transportation Technician, you will perform the following duties: Plan Preparation: Prepare and check roadway plans, construction drawings, and right-of-way layouts using CADD software Technical Drafting: Complete detailed drafting work from preliminary sketches through final design plans Design Support: Assist engineers by setting alignments, performing calculations, and developing drainage or grade layouts Survey Interpretation: Apply survey notes, field data, and aerial photographs to support plan development Field Review: Conduct field investigations to observe terrain, drainage, and physical site conditions Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time employment Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, upon successful completion of probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Montoursville. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Salary:Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $41,506 (before taxes). Required Experience, Training & Eligibility QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: One year of experience in highway or bridge surveying, design, construction, or inspection work; or One year of experience in quality control of materials or building or construction industry experience, which includes reading and interpreting blueprints, plans, or schematics; or An equivalent combination of experience and training.
