Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

The Adult Skills Center (TASC) provides innovative and proactive services that empower individuals with diverse intellectual, developmental, and mental health needs to achieve their highest level of Independence and realize their greatest potential. The Transportation Specialist will assist in all aspects of TASC’s fleet of vehicles and transportation program. 

Primary Duties: 

  1. Manages vehicle fleet list and assigns vehicles depending on program and client needs. 
  2. Is responsible for monitoring and handing out keys to drivers in the morning and collecting them in the afternoon. 
  3. Will assist in assigning gas card and gas pins to new drivers and new vehicles.  
  4. Will be responsible for taking vehicles to shop/mechanic for any vehicle related emergencies or maintenance. 
  5. Cover a community-based client group as needed. 

Vendor Audits

  1. Monitor staff performance to ensure safety, reliability, and effective transportation that is in compliance with Regional Center and Metro contracts.
  2. Conduct transportation service audit (vehicle insurance requirements, driver credentials, hiring and training procedures)
  3. Generate audit findings and recommendations to correct deficient areas with timelines for corrective action.
  4. Collaborate extensively with program staff regarding vehicle configurations, tentative program changes, vehicle inspections, and other vendor contract requirements that impact the routing efficiencies.
  5. Provide consultation, recommendations, and assistance with reporting, data input, and data collection.
  6. Effectively communicate information, including procedures, processes, manuals, training, and technologies to ensure consistent implementation and follow-up.

Driver Training 

  1. Conduct driver training to educate drivers and attendants of responsibilities, proper procedures related to behavior management, passenger sensitivity, safety, and quality service delivery.
  2. Develop training modules and policies to align with emerging service issues.
  3. Educate drivers, attendants, support/administrative staff regarding operational requirements, Special Incident Reporting, and other expectations.

Special Incident Reports

  1. Investigate, document, and submit records to appropriate parties within required timelines.
  2. Ensure vehicles are routed for service or to a body shop. Communicate with insurance and all parties to resolve accidents.
  3. Follow established procedures to address and resolve the reported service issue(s).
  4. Ensure that all reported incidents are appropriately documented through established protocols.
  5. Implement results-oriented solutions.

Mobility Training

  1. Position specializes in mobility training for clients. Educate participants to safely utilize public transit resources in a variety of settings.
  2. Ability to learn, understand, and teach the use of transit maps and schedules
  3. Must be able to work independently and constructively in a field environment with the ability to meet the commitments on project needs on a timely basis traveling throughout the county.
  4. Always support the safety and well-being of participants

 

Qualifications: 

  • Related experience in special needs or transportation services is preferred. A combination of education and experience may be considered. 
  • Strong computer skills, including demonstrated success with Microsoft Office Suite; strong skills and comfort with internet applications and social networking sites
  • Must be able to successfully complete First Aid/CPR 
  • Maintain all certifications up to date
  • Must have current California Driver’s license/Insurance and clean DMV. 
  • Must receive criminal record clearance through the DOJ.
  • Desire to compassionately align with the client, while supporting a culture of creating self-reliance and sustainability
  • Ability to establish and develop effective relationships with staff, employers, volunteers, community groups, current and potential donors, corporate sponsors, agency partners and other key stakeholders

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to drive for work
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards. 
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and sit. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

The employee must provide physical assistance and/or push clients up to 250lbs in a wheelchair. Must be able to assist adult clients transitioning in and out of vehicle and in the restroom.  

 

Completion of Professional Crisis Management Certification within 90 days of hire (provided by TASC) is required for this position and is not recommended for:

1) Individuals who have mobility and/or range of motion problems 

2) Individuals with recent fractures or surgeries 

3) Individuals who have suffered any kind of joint injury requiring medical attention in the past 6 months 

         4) Individuals with poor balance, flexibility, or agility
