Transportation Safety & Compliance Director
Total Logisticsπ Vaudreuil-Dorion, QC | Full-Time | On-Site You know trucking. You know compliance. And you know that great safety leadership happens both behind the desk and out in the operation. Total Logistics is looking for an experienced Transportation Safety & Compliance Director to lead our Safety & Compliance function and play a key role in supporting our Canadian and U.S. trucking operations. This isn't a role where you'll simply maintain files and check boxes. You'll have ownership of the function β working closely with drivers, owner-operators, operations and senior leadership to keep our fleet safe, compliant and moving. What You'll Own Canada & U.S. Transportation Compliance You'll oversee our Canadian and U.S. carrier compliance programs, including: Carrier safety profiles, monitoring, audits and corrective actions Hours of Service (HOS) compliance and driver log monitoring FMCSA/DOT requirements and regulatory accounts IRP registrations and plating for Quebec and Ontario State permits and applicable mileage/weight reporting Roadside inspections, violations, tickets and follow-ups Driver, equipment and preventive maintenance compliance files Driver Safety & Qualification You'll oversee the safety and compliance side of bringing drivers and owner-operators into the organization, including: Driver qualification and pre-screening Employment and driving history verification Road tests and evaluations Drug & Alcohol testing requirements where applicable Safety orientation and compliance documentation Corrective coaching and training Accidents, Incidents & Risk When something happens on the road, you'll take the lead. You'll oversee accident and incident reporting, investigations, documentation, post-accident intervention and corrective action while working with drivers, operations, insurers and adjusters. More importantly, you'll look beyond individual incidents to identify trends and reduce future risk. Fleet Safety Technology You'll oversee systems related to electronic logs, driver communication, navigation, performance monitoring and dash cameras, including critical-event review and follow-up. Leadership & Continuous Improvement You'll lead and develop our Safety & Compliance team while acting as a key resource for management, operations and drivers. You'll help strengthen policies, processes, training and internal controls as regulations and our operation continue to evolve. The role also includes oversight and support of programs such as C-TPAT, PIP and SmartWay, as well as ongoing interaction with Canadian and U.S. regulatory authorities. What We're Looking For We're interested in speaking with someone who has built their career within transportation or trucking safety and compliance . Ideally, you bring: 5+ years of progressive Safety & Compliance experience within trucking/transportation Strong knowledge of Canadian and U.S. transportation regulations Hands-on experience with HOS, driver qualification, roadside inspections and carrier compliance Knowledge of FMCSA/DOT, IRP and cross-border requirements Experience managing accidents, investigations and corrective actions Previous leadership or team management experience Strong judgment, organization and problem-solving skills The confidence to work directly with drivers, owner-operators, operations, senior management and regulatory agencies French and English communication skills are a strong asset The Person We're Looking For We're not looking for someone who only knows the regulations. We're looking for someone who understands how they apply in a real trucking operation . Someone who can identify a risk, talk to a driver, challenge a process when necessary, coach a team and sit down with senior leadership to clearly explain what needs to happen next.
