Description JOB INFORMATION: Title Transportation Planner Series - Station Planning Authority OA Department Operations Planning Division/Unit Station Planning Location: 2 Broadway, Manhattan Hours Day Telework (if Applicable) Reporting Manager (if Applicable): Manager, Station Planning Compensation Deadline (if Applicable): OA – REP TWU L 100 Principal Transportation Planner $99,734 - $132,458 Senior Transportation Planner $94,117 - $119,984 Transportation Planner $82,864 - $106,715 Assistant Transportation Planner $70,857 - $83,882 Responsibilities The Station Planning groupis responsible forplanning the functional design and operation of subway stations, with a focus on customer flow through stations. Our goal is to ensure that station circulation functions at guideline level of service both now and well into the future. The position entails analyzing current and projected future passenger flow within stations anddeterminingefficient layouts and/or required sizing of circulation and fare control elements including, but not limited to, stairs, escalators, passageways, and turnstiles. In addition to ridership demand, Station Planners consider emergency egress requirements, accessibility for people with disabilities, and convenience for intermodal connections. Responsibilities also include analyzing and recommending construction phasing strategies and station operation plans,determiningutility of potential easements, evaluating environmental review documents, and assessing the short- and long-term impacts of subway service changes. Site visits to various subway stations, often involving data collection such as passenger counts, observations of passenger flow, measuring stair width, etc., arefrequentlyrequired.Passenger counts are typically conducted during the morning and/or evening peak ridership periods. The position requires effective collaboration with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including project design and construction teams, operating departments, city agencies, private developers, and other partners. The role will also involve researching and evaluating best practices from other transit systems. Education And Experience Principal Transportation Planner A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with a major in one or more of the following: city / urban planning, transit planning, transportation science, geography, urban studies, public administration, architecture, engineering, political science, or related fields; and five (5) years of full-time paid experience in urban planning, transit/transportation planning, transit scheduling or operations.A master’s degree in any of the fields listed for the baccalaureate degree may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience. Senior Transportation Planner A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with a major in one or more of the following: city/urban planning, transit planning, transportation science, geography, urban studies, public administration, architecture, engineering, political science, or related fields; and four (4) years of full-time paid experience in urban planning, transit/transportation planning, transit scheduling or operations.A master’s degree in any of the fields listed for the baccalaureate degree may substitute for one (1) year of the required experience.
