Under the direction of your supervisor, the Transportation Operations Lead is responsible for overseeing and optimizing transportation operations across all ports. This role serves as the strategic and operational lead for dispatch execution, vendor performance, cost control, and compliance, exercising independent judgment in decision-making and operational planning. The Transportation Operations Lead partners cross-functionally with Billing, Data, and Local Operations leadership to develop, implement, and continuously improve scalable transportation processes, ensuring efficiency, safety, and financial performance. Summary of Objectives: Operational Leadership & Decision-Making Lead and direct daily transportation operations, including dispatch strategy, driver allocation, and service execution. Exercise independent judgment to adjust staffing models, routing strategies, and vendor utilization based on real-time operational conditions. Serve as the primary decision-maker for day-to-day operational issues, resolving escalations and determining appropriate corrective actions. Establish and implement operational standards, workflows, and best practices across all ports. Own same-day service coverage decisions across all ports, including driver reallocations, vendor deployment, service recovery, and last-minute coverage gaps. Partner with the General Manager to develop and execute operational strategies aligned with company objectives. Performance Management & Strategic Oversight Own and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs), including driver utilization, cost per move, service levels, and vendor performance. Identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities, and implement corrective action plans. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve service quality. Evaluate and optimize the balance between in-house and third-party transportation resources. Financial Oversight & Cost Control Oversee transportation-related costs, including third-party vendor spend, and ensure alignment with budgets and financial targets. Approve and validate invoices, resolve discrepancies, and enforce vendor compliance with contractual terms. Develop and implement cost-control strategies and accountability measures across operations. Compliance, Safety & Risk Management Ensure adherence to all company safety programs, regulatory requirements, and HSEQ standards. Oversee vehicle maintenance programs and safety monitoring systems, taking corrective action when risks are identified. Establish and enforce compliance protocols, ensuring audit readiness and operational integrity. National Vendor & Program Coordination Serve as the primary liaison between Local Operations Managers and nationwide transportation vendors, ensuring consistent service standards, issue resolution, and alignment with company requirements. Coordinate with headquarters and national vendors on fleet-related programs, including vehicle registrations, telematics, maintenance systems, and other transportation support services. Support the rollout of centralized vendor initiatives, ensuring clear communication of requirements, timelines, and implementation expectations to local markets. Partner with Ops Managers to ensure successful local execution of national programs, standards, and vendor processes. Monitor vendor responsiveness, service quality, and issue resolution across all markets, escalating recurring concerns as appropriate. Cross-Functional Leadership Act as the primary liaison between Transportation Operations, Billing, and Data teams, establishing priorities and ensuring alignment. Provide guidance and direction to coordinators and support staff (directly or indirectly) to ensure execution of operational objectives.
