This role ensures the efficient, cost-effective, and reliable movement of raw materials and finished goods while maintaining industry-leading service levels for customers and internal stakeholders. The Transportation Manager is a highly experienced transportation professional with a proven track record of making strategic decisions that balance freight cost, service, and operational efficiency. This individual must possess extensive domestic transportation expertise, strong leadership skills, and a customer-first mindset. Familiarity with international transportation and import logistics is important. Success in this role requires a team player who builds strong relationships across Sales, Customer Service, Production, Procurement, Planning, Warehousing, and Logistics while recognizing that exceptional customer service is fundamental to the company's success. Position Responsibilities: Develop and execute transportation strategies that support company growth, profitability, and customer service objectives. Lead all domestic transportation activities, including truckload, LTL, parcel, intermodal, and expedited freight. Evaluate transportation networks, carrier relationships, service levels, and freight spending to identify continuous improvement opportunities. Utilize data and performance metrics to support strategic transportation decisions and drive operational excellence. Manage transportation budgets and freight expenditures while maintaining superior service levels. Monitor transportation market trends and proactively adjust strategies to align with changing business needs. Partner with Domestic Logistics Planner to oversee the daily execution of inbound and outbound domestic transportation activities. Develop and maintain strategic relationships with carriers, brokers, and third-party logistics providers. Negotiate freight rates, contracts, and service agreements. Ensure timely delivery performance and effective resolution of transportation issues. Lead corrective actions and root-cause analysis when service disruptions occur. Drive efficiencies through route optimization, carrier performance management, and process improvement. Serve as a trusted transportation partner to Sales, Customer Service, Manufacturing, Planning, Procurement, and Warehouse teams. Prioritize customer satisfaction while balancing operational and financial objectives. Understand the critical importance of our customers and ensure transportation decisions support customer commitments and long-term relationships. Maintain a strong sense of urgency and responsiveness when addressing customer and stakeholder concerns. Foster collaboration across departments to achieve shared business goals. Partner closely with the International Logistics Planner to support the seamless movement of imported materials and products. Provide transportation expertise related to domestic movement of imported goods once they enter the U.S. distribution network. Collaborate on transportation strategies that impact overall supply chain performance. Maintain working knowledge of international freight markets, ocean transportation, and import processes to support cross-functional decision making Lead by example through collaboration, accountability, and a solution-oriented approach. Foster a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement. Support the professional development of transportation personnel and cross-functional partners. Champion process discipline, communication, and operational excellence throughout the organization. Ensure compliance with DOT, FMCSA, transportation, and safety regulations.
