Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Promote a safety-first culture by keeping US Foods associates, customers, and members of the public safe. Support safety procedures, processes, and training throughout the Transportation department.
• Lead and develop drivers and Transportation associates through coaching, training, policy guidance, problem resolution, and positive leadership. Ensure employees understand their responsibilities and applicable safety and legal requirements.
• Work with Sr. Transportation Managers to review employee performance and create plans to address performance or development gaps.
• Encourage open communication and motivate associates to achieve department goals and objectives.
• Supervise drivers and clerical associates, monitor productivity, and support employee engagement and retention while reinforcing US Foods values.
• Support team building by participating in interviews and hiring activities with Sr. Transportation Managers. Review performance, provide coaching on service and safety, and administer disciplinary actions when necessary.
• Monitor production goals and maintain a zero-error approach to support shipment accuracy and customer satisfaction. Resolve delivery issues using cost-effective and legally compliant solutions while following DOT regulations.
• Identify operational waste and improve processes so work can be completed safely and efficiently.
• Conduct regular safety and driver meetings.
• Maintain and oversee driver qualification files.
• Investigate accidents, maintain accident records, identify contributing causes, and implement appropriate preventive measures.
• Prepare employee schedules and work shifts using planning tools, including Microsoft Excel.
• Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Supervision:
• Direct supervision of union and/or non-union Drivers.
Relationships:
Internal: Transportation leaders and coworkers, Drivers, Warehouse leaders, and internal customers across departments such as Sales.
External: Customers.
Work Environment:
This position may require significant time on the road and working alongside drivers in trucks, where noise and vibration may be higher than in passenger vehicles. The role also includes time in an office environment using a computer.
Minimum Qualifications:
Related Experience/Requirements:
• Minimum of three years of experience in transportation, delivery, or warehouse distribution is required.
• Minimum of one year of experience overseeing a workforce is required.
• Previous experience as a driver is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Broad understanding of transportation and delivery operations, methods, and procedures.
• Strong leadership, communication, and employee development skills.
• Strong knowledge of DOT requirements, with familiarity with inventory control, OSHA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
• Ability to understand and interpret financial and operational information.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
Travel:
• 10% travel is required, generally for mandatory meetings and/or training.
Education and Training:
• High school diploma or GED is required.
• College degree is preferred.
