Characteristics of Work

This is first-level supervisory transportation infrastructure maintenance work involving responsibility for coordinating, directing, and reviewing the work of maintenance technicians assigned to roadway, infrastructure, and related maintenance operations.

The incumbent supervises crews, plans and assigns work, provides training and guidance, reviews work for accuracy and safety, and supports the day-to-day completion of maintenance activities. Work requires knowledge of transportation maintenance operations, safe work practices, equipment use, crew coordination, and performance accountability.

Examples of Work

Examples of work include coordinating and directing the work of maintenance technicians; planning and assigning daily maintenance work; reviewing completed work for accuracy, safety, and compliance with instructions; training and guiding employees; assisting with hire recommendations; assessing employee performance; coaching staff; addressing progressive discipline matters as needed; performing or assisting with transportation infrastructure maintenance work; coordinating crew activities, equipment, materials, and schedules; communicating with supervisors, crew members, and other personnel; ensuring safe work practices are followed; maintaining records or reports; and performing related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Typically requires a High School Diploma or high school equivalency and 5+ years of experience.

Essential functions include supervising and coordinating transportation infrastructure maintenance technicians; planning, assigning, directing, and reviewing maintenance work; training and coaching employees; assisting with hire recommendations, performance assessments, and progressive discipline matters; performing and reviewing roadway, infrastructure, equipment, and related maintenance activities; coordinating crews, schedules, materials, and equipment; communicating effectively with staff, supervisors, and other personnel; following and enforcing safety procedures; maintaining records and reports; supporting efficient maintenance operations; and performing related supervisory maintenance duties as assigned.
