Job Responsibilities

For the Office of Materials and Research, performs inspection, sampling and troubleshooting of materials used at prestressed and precast concrete plants and structural steel fabrication facilities. Assures prestressed/precast concrete and steel members meet fabrication process controls, SCDOT specifications, and special provisions. Performs calculations and reviews shop drawings for accuracy. Assists with managing the On-call Inspection and Testing Services contract for Prestressed/ Precast Concrete Materials and Structural Steel, Signs, and Related items contract. Ensures consultant firms provide experienced personnel, verifies weekly reports, and assists with preparation of monthly invoices. Prepares concrete batch forms and assists with review of concrete mix designs. Maintains records and files for project materials. Provides technical support to department personnel on issues related to structural concrete and steel items. Assists with random inspections of the fabrication process of precast bridge spans and culvert pipe, and ready-mix plants, and steel fabrication facilities as needed. Performs other related duties assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and two (2) years of progressively responsible engineering technician related experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Attainment of a Technician Certification in accordance with the SCDOT Technician Certification Policy may substitute for six (6) months of directly related experience. Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
