State of South CarolinaJob Responsibilities Assists with monitoring construction projects for compliance with project-specific plans, SCDOT Standard Specifications for Highway Construction, and SCDOT Standard Drawings for Road Construction. Performs project inspection duties as needed, including monitoring project progress, maintaining daily field notes, verifying the quality of work and contractor compliance with SCDOT specifications and standards, and maintaining clear communication between contractors and SCDOT. Monitors project QA/QC, erosion control, and traffic control activities for compliance with applicable certifications, approved plans, and standard drawings. Assists with managing contract maintenance projects in accordance with applicable standards and specifications. Performs project closeout activities as required by the supervisor or contract requirements. Coordinates with project engineers and inspectors to ensure appropriate inspection coverage on construction projects. Supports project management activities, including serving as a liaison with utilities and contractors, conducting initial site inspections, obtaining required utility documentation, and monitoring utility relocations. Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum And Additional Requirements A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. This position may require travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position requires driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise. A motor vehicle operator’s license is required.
