State of West VirginiaNature of Work Disclaimer-this position will be considered classified-exempt and “at will.” Under limited supervision of the District Bridge Engineer, the selected applicant will perform professional engineering as the District Bridge Evaluation Engineer. Will perform structural load analysis of bridges, requiring the ability to apply modern bridge theory and principles, calculating complex mathematical equations, and troubleshooting results to ensure validity. Will supervise and train evaluation staff in the same. Will review and approve new bridge design work of internal and contracted professional engineers by checking plans and performing structural load analysis. Provide assistance, supervision, and guidance to subordinates. This position requires travel; therefore a valid driver's license is required. Performs other work as required. Minimum Qualifications Preference may be given to Candidates with these qualifications** TRAINING/EDUCATION Current license as a registered professional engineer in West Virginia. No substitutions. EXPERIENCE Six (6) years of highway engineering experience involving the design, construction, or maintenance of highways. Substitution #1: Master of Science degree in civil engineering from a regionally accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of the required experience. OR Substitution #2: Non-highway engineering experience may be substituted for the highway engineering experience at the rate of two (2) years of general experience for one (1) year of highway-related experience.
