State of West VirginiaNature of Work Disclaimer-this position will be considered classified-exempt and “at will.” The Transportation District Administrator 3 in this position will serve as the District 1 Maintenance Engineer/Manager which will serve Kanawha, Putnam, Mason, Boone, and Clay counties. This position, under limited supervision, performs advanced level work administering highway maintenance programs at all levels, including Core Maintenance activities and Snow Removal and Ice Control (SRIC). Advanced supervisory, planning, and budgetary skills are essential to this position. This position will supervise the work of other employees assigned to a district organization, such as maintenance, construction, or traffic. A majority of the work will be out in the field: inspecting roads and bridges, investigating citizen complaints, and attending meetings or conferences as needed. While in the field, the incumbent may be exposed to inclement weather and hazardous working conditions. The incumbent should be able to communicate effectively and respond quickly in unexpected and emergency situations. Performs related work as required. Minimum Qualifications Preference may be given to Candidates with these qualifications** TRAINING/EDUCATION Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university. Substitution: Experience, as described below, may be substituted for the required training/education through an established formula. EXPERIENCE Eight (8) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in business administration, public administration, transportation, construction, manufacturing, mining, or the armed services. OR Eight (8) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience serving in the capacity of a project coordinator. Substitution. Successful completion of graduate coursework may be substituted for two (2) years of the required experience through an established formula. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT Travel may be required; therefore, a valid driver’s license is required.
