Lamar CISDJOB STATUS: OPEN POSTING DATE: 10/08/2026 POSTING NUMBER: 00008060 LOCATION: Transportation POSITION TITLE: Transportation Dispatcher (Fulshear) JOB DESCRIPTION: Primary Purpose: To assist in providing safe and efficient transportation for students. Ensure that all bus routes are covered by securing substitutes when regular drivers and assistants are absent. Rerouting other drivers when accidents or breakdowns occur. Maintain two-way radio communications, phones and the Transportation community announcement software RESPONSIBILITIES: Major Responsibilities and Duties 1. Assist in assignment of substitute bus drivers and aides for all routes. 2. Dispatch drivers and vehicles on various routes based on school schedule. 3. Substitute on open routes as needed or required while performing the duties of a bus driver. Professionally communicate with Dispatch in case of mechanical failure, road hazards, and disruption of routes 4. Perform pre-trip/post trip inspection of the bus or vehicle driven including looking for students possibly left behind at the end of each route, operation of wheelchair lift and other special equipment. 5. Ability to communicate in English in both written and oral. 6. Perform duties as assigned and related to the daily routine of pupil transportation in the District. 7. Communicate clearly and effectively using two-way radio, telephone, community announcements and written instructions. Must be able to read and understand Bus Routes and maps. 8. Correct unsafe conditions that may exist in the work area that could cause an accident. Any conditions that are not correctable by you are to be reported to the manager immediately. 9. Know and practice the proper safety procedures in operating machinery and equipment as required for the job. 10. Know and practice safety techniques in lifting, climbing and performing other job duties. 11. Monitor and/or respond to a variety of calls including two-way radios and mobile phones; verify and monitor vehicle unit locations via computers; prioritize, and relay transportation requests including any emergency situations. 12. Work confidentially with discretion. 13. Ability to perform clerical duties including proofreading for correct spelling and proper grammar. Basic computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office Suite. 14. Respond to emergency situations as requested including accidents, and severe weather conditions. Coordinate with Manager, schools, police and other personnel as required. 15. Greet and communicate with visitors and all employees tactfully and courteously. 16. Provide bus route information to parents, students, and staff upon request. 17. Maintains and updates dispatch systems by entering data via computer and handwritten to complete necessary reports. 18. Attendance at work is an essential function. Required to have prompt, regular attendance and be available to work on-site, in-person during regular business hours and as needed after hours. Must be available for early morning start-up and/or late closings when needed. 19. Other duties as assigned by the manager, supervisor or designee. EXPERIENCE: Minimum Experience: Two years’ previous experience in coordinating schedules and/or dispatching desired. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Education/Certification: High school diploma or G.E.D. - Required Certification of good health. Valid Texas driver’s license - Required Successful completion of bus driver's certification program – Preferred or required to obtain within first 4 months of employment in position. Valid Texas commercial driver's license – Preferred or required to obtain within first 4 months of employment in position. Eligible for coverage under the District's vehicle insurance program. Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of Lamar CISD pupil transportation system - Preferred General mechanical comprehension.
