You’ll monitor active routes, communicate with drivers and customers, respond to delays, and prepare a clear handoff for the overnight team. A typical shift covers approximately 25–35 drivers with support from another dispatcher. Previous dispatch experience is helpful but not required. Help resolve missed appointments, breakdowns, rejected loads, and route disruptions. Review driver hours and escalate possible hours-of-service issues. Record status updates, customer communication, and incident details. Coordinate with maintenance, warehouse, and customer-service teams. Prepare an accurate shift report for the overnight dispatcher. Escalate safety concerns according to company procedures. Dispatchers do not drive trucks, load freight, or perform unpaid work outside scheduled shifts. What we’re looking for At least one year of customer service, transportation, warehouse, delivery, or administrative experience. Clear and confident phone communication. Ability to prioritize several changing situations without losing important details. Basic computer skills and comfort learning dispatch software. Professional judgment when communicating with drivers and customers. Reliable attendance for a fixed evening schedule. A high school diploma or GED. A CDL and college degree are not required. The first four weeks of training take place Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m. After training, the employee moves to the permanent evening schedule. Hours worked after 6:00 p.m. receive an additional $2 per hour. Approved time beyond 40 hours per week is paid at 1.5 times the employee’s regular rate.
