    Transportation Coordinator

     

    The Delran Township School District, a K-12 district committed to excellence and innovation, is accepting applications for a Transportation Coordinator. Qualified candidates should possess:

     

    • Strong knowledge and understanding of Federal and State laws and regulations pertaining to student transportation regulations and requirements.
    • 3-5 years' experience in school transportation services.
    • Must have a valid New Jersey commercial driver license class B with passenger and school bus endorsements and current CDL.
    • Should have knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, school transportation routing software, student information software, and be versed in data entry for student, school and routing information in order to schedule routes, students and department functions.
    • Excellent organizational skills, strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, parents and community.
    • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident.
    • High School Diploma; or recognized equivalent.

       

    Job Responsibilities:

     

    • Organizes and manages all bus transportation operations district-wide in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations and Board of Education policies and procedures. Responsibilities include:
      • Develop and implement all bus routes annually and modify them as needed throughout the year for daily student transportation for in-district and out-of-district students.
      • Schedule and manage all bus transportation for activities, trips and athletics.
      • Schedule and manage all bus transportation for district owned bus, which includes: create  a monthly spreadsheet of transportation for the 18-21 students and confirm district employed bus aide(s) and driver(s)receive all required training.
      • Schedule and monitor student safety training and bi-annual bus evacuation drills.
      • Conduct weekly meetings with the supervisor of the contracted transportation  company (daily if needed).
      • Observe each bus route and each bus driver yearly.
      • Investigate parent complaints/issues in regard to bus transportation and update district administrators and supervisors.
      • Fulfill district responsibilities in regard to transportation requests from private/parochial school students, including, B6T requests, transportation, AID IN LIEU OF, and the completion, distribution and review of the Private School Verification Summary which is completed twice a year.
      • Contract routes and arrange transportation of Special Education students for both the school year and for Extended School Year programming.
      • Collect data and prepare required reports for the district, county, state and (DRTRS).
    • Organizes yearly transportation contract compliance which includes the organization of:
      • Advertisements for bids
      • Bid Opening
      • Bid Specifications and Updates
      • Recommendation to BOE via Business Administrator to award yearly transportation contract.
    • Oversees the district transportation contract which includes:
      • Trip/Activity pricing, per diem adds/deletes, extra drive time and mileage charges.
      • Vehicle and maintenance spot checks to ensure that the Bus Transportation contractor is in compliance with the district Board of Education bid specifications.
      • Confirm the following is completed:
        • Receipt and review of driving abstracts and criminal history background checks of drivers.
        • Vehicle and maintenance spot checks to ensure that the contracted transportation company is in compliance with the Board of Education bid specifications.
        • Review and update (if needed) weekly transportation schedule to include calendar changes, trips, athletics, shuttles and busing for Special Education students.
    • Communicates with students, parents, and district personnel  to exchange information and resolve issues or concerns related to bus routes, schedules, student behavior, and other assigned activities.
    • Serves as a liaison between the district and ESU regarding routes available for joint agreements
    • Represents the district at required monthly transportation meetings.
    • Monitors billing data for ESU billing
    • Prepares and presents updates, reports and studies to the Business Administrator and/or Superintendent relative to transportation when requested.
    • Reports all accidents and pupil injuries immediately to the school business administrator.
    • Ensures that the district hired bus driver:
      • Adheres to the established routes and keeps designated bus stops to the assigned time schedule.
      • Participates in state mandated school bus evacuations drills as required.
      • Attends classes, safety meetings, and in-service training as assigned and/or as required for maintenance of CDL license and endorsements.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Business Administrator and/or Superintendent.
    • Serves as a substitute bus driver and/or substitute bus aide on district owned bus.

     

    This position is for a vacancy for an existing, full-time 12-month position and includes enrollment in the PERS NJ Pension System, accumulating sick and vacation days, personal days and Family Medical, Dental and Prescription benefits.
