State of West VirginiaNature of Work **Disclaimer-this position will be considered classified-exempt and “at will.” Looking for a career leading a team of building and grounds workers, oversee and manage the improvements and renovations and maintenance of state properties, and see the results of your work every day? A Transportation Building and Grounds Manager provides hands on leadership to a building and grounds maintenance crew responsible for keeping the building and the grounds of state facilities a safe and pleasant environment. As a Building and Grounds manager, you’ll work alongside your crew while helping plan, coordinate, and oversee daily maintenance and repair activities of state facilities. What You’ll Do As a Building and Grounds Manager, you may: ? Lead and direct a crew maintaining, repairing, and renovating state property. ? Recommend alterations to existing structure. ? Evaluate and determine adequate operating space requirements. ? Ensure state building codes and safety and fire regulations are met. ? Establish maintenance and repair procedures to be used by all building maintenance personnel. ? Provide instruction and on-the-job guidance to crew members. ? Monitor work to help ensure it is completed safely, efficiently, and correctly. ? Determines and makes recommendations for additional structural lighting, heating, and ventilating equipment. ? Maintain records and utilize a state purchasing card. Who We’re Looking For: We’re looking for a dependable individual who are ready to lead by example. Successful Building and Grounds Managers are knowledgeable of the phases of building construction, janitorial work, and office renovation and able to communicate with a team, and willing to step in and work alongside their crew, Knowledge, Skills, Ability: Knowledge of various phases of construction. Experience with building construction. Knowledge of safety and fire regulations, Knowledge of building codes. Ability to read and revise blueprints. Ability to identify maintenance and repair needs. Minimum Qualifications **Preference may be given to Candidates with these qualifications** TRAINING/EDUCATION High school diploma or the equivalent. EXPERIENCE Eight (8) years of full-time or equivalent part-time paid experience in building maintenance, building construction, in the installation and maintenance of building electrical or heating systems, or highway related experience. Substitution: Successful completion of vocational school training may substituted for the required experience the required experience through an established formula. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENT Travel is required; therefore, a valid driver's license is required.
