Position is located in the Lowcountry RPG1 – Geotechnical Design Group. Prepares preliminary and final geotechnical reports and geotechnical specifications. Performs complex design and analysis of conventional and non-conventional bridges, retaining structures, reinforced embankments, and slopes. Performs reviews of consultant and in-house prepared projects. Represents SCDOT at conferences and workshops as well as be a part of committees related to geotechnical engineering. Manages geotechnical "on-call" contracts with limited oversight. Coordinates with the Contracts Office to provide scope of services, fee estimates, consultant evaluations, and other contract documentation. Reviews and interprets Pile Driving Analyzer test data and other foundation load test data. Performs final analysis of deep foundations using load test data. Attends project scoping, design field review, and public meetings as necessary. Performs basic liquefaction analysis. Supervises and trains a Geotechnical Design Team of engineers and engineering associates. Performs other related duties as assigned.
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and three (3) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required.
The physical demands for the essential functions involves sitting or standing at a desk for extended periods of time. This position may require occasional travel. May require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. Walking for extended periods, treading rough terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and in natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside normal business hours or respond to emergency situations.
