As a Trade Compliance Specialist, you will collaborate closely with the Trade Compliance team and the Director to develop, implement, and manage export licensing, policy, and compliance strategies that primarily focus on our Land Systems division. Your expertise will also help our foreign affiliates navigate U.S. export laws and regulations effectively.
Responsibilities:
• Continuously improve and implement the trade compliance program, emphasizing defense-related activities in the Land Systems division.
• Collaborate with key functions and program teams to align on business objectives.
• Act as a subject matter expert on ITAR and EAR compliance, providing guidance for compliant operations.
• Facilitate foreign technology transfer to the U.S., ensuring compatibility with both U.S. and foreign requirements.
• Coordinate with foreign affiliates to ensure compliance with U.S., Swedish, and other national trade regulations.
• Maintain necessary export authorizations, including licenses, agreements, exemptions, and exceptions.
• Serve as an Empowered Official.
• Draft and submit export license applications, agreements, and requests, tracking their progress through U.S. Government systems.
• Communicate with U.S. Government representatives to resolve issues and secure authorizations.
• Ensure understanding and compliance with license conditions and requirements.
• Identify and ensure compliance with applicable license exemptions.
• Translate corporate trade compliance policies into actionable site procedures and instructions.
• Standardize trade compliance practices for consistency within the division.
• Engage with partners, customers, suppliers, and government agencies on compliance issues.
• Monitor regulatory changes, advising management on impacts and risk mitigation strategies.
• Conduct internal audits, risk assessments, and compliance fact-finding activities.
• Create and deliver tailored trade compliance training for key business functions.
• Foster a culture of compliance and accountability throughout the organization.
• Work with foreign affiliates to deliver compliance briefings to diverse audiences.
• Develop, maintain, and update compliance policies and procedures.
• Perform additional trade compliance tasks as assigned by the Director.
Compensation Ranges:
Auburn Hills, MI, Grayling, MI, or East Syracuse, NY: $101,600 - $132,000
Washington, D.C.: $121,900 - $158,500
Compensation considers role responsibilities, location, market conditions, and individual qualifications.
Skills and Experience:
Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of experience with ITAR, EAR, and trade regulations, or a Master's degree with 8+ years, or equivalent education and experience.
• Experience with engineering teams on USML/ECCN classifications and improving related workflows.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance.
• Willingness to travel 5%-10%, domestically and possibly internationally.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with classification, BATFE import licensing, and compliant shipment of defense articles.
• Strong communication skills, able to explain issues and requirements clearly.
• Experience with foreign entities and cultural appreciation.
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
• Excellent organizational skills for managing multiple tasks effectively.
