Job Summary
The Tractor Trailer Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing company tractors and trailers. The ideal candidate is an experienced mechanic with strong diagnostic and repair skills who takes pride in quality workmanship and is committed to maintaining a safe, reliable, and road-ready fleet.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform scheduled and preventative maintenance (PMs) on tractors, trailers, and related equipment.
• Inspect equipment and identify mechanical, electrical, and other maintenance issues.
• Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment problems and determine the appropriate repairs.
• Perform brake repairs, tire changes, drum replacements, and other routine and non-routine maintenance.
• Perform electrical repairs and replace components including alternators, starters, wiper motors, and other tractor/trailer parts.
• Inspect, repair, and replace defective components and systems as needed.
• Order necessary replacement parts and ensure repairs are completed properly and efficiently.
• Test repaired equipment to verify proper operation and performance.
• Complete all repairs in a safe, timely, and professional manner.
• Accurately complete maintenance records and required paperwork, including documentation of parts used and repair time.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Follow all company safety procedures and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Communicate effectively with management regarding equipment condition, repairs, parts needs, and additional maintenance concerns.
• Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
• Minimum 2 years of experience as a tractor, trailer, truck, diesel, or fleet mechanic.
• Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Knowledge of tractor and trailer systems, brakes, tires, electrical systems, and general heavy-duty vehicle maintenance.
• Class A CDL highly preferred.
• Welding experience is a plus.
• Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a maintenance team.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
• Ability to prioritize work and complete repairs efficiently.
• Commitment to workplace safety and following established procedures.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
