Tractor-Trailer Driver

Job Summary Greg Rents Inc. is seeking a qualified Truck Driver to operate large trucks and transfer vehicles for hauling bulk materials, including rock, sand, and gravel, to our retail yards. This position will also occasionally assist with the delivery and pickup of large rental equipment as needed. The ideal candidate is safety-conscious, dependable, and experienced in operating commercial vehicles and knows how to be a team player, communicating well with store managers and dispatchers. A valid California Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required. Responsibilities Drive commercial trucks on route and delivery assignments, including OTR routes as needed Load, unload, secure, and inspect freight; use manual handling practices and follow cargo procedures Operate equipment suited to the load, which may include refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, or automobile transportation trailers Use GPS navigation and communicate route or delivery issues through established procedures Follow Department of Transportation (DOT) and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations, including applicable hazardous materials and dangerous goods requirements Qualifications Minimum of one year of commercial truck driving experience required. Experience operating truck and transfer vehicles preferred. High school diploma or equivalent preferred; candidates with relevant post-secondary technical training will also be considered. Must possess a valid California Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). Strong commitment to safe driving practices, vehicle care, and reliable customer service. Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to coordinate closely with store managers to ensure timely deliveries and confirm material requirements. Knowledge Commercial Truck Operations – Knowledge of safe operating practices for commercial trucks and transfer vehicles used to haul bulk materials and transport rental equipment. Transportation Safety and Regulations – Knowledge of applicable traffic laws, commercial driving regulations, vehicle safety requirements, and load securement practices. Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance – Knowledge of routine vehicle inspections, common vehicle safety concerns, and procedures for reporting maintenance needs. Materials and Delivery Requirements – Understanding of bulk materials, delivery quantities, and the importance of confirming material types and delivery locations with store managers. Communication and Customer Service – Knowledge of effective communication practices when coordinating deliveries with store managers, yard personnel, customers, and coworkers. English Language Skills – Ability to read, write, and understand English sufficiently to interpret delivery instructions, read road signs, follow safety procedures, complete required documentation, and communicate effectively with team members. Transportation Documentation – Knowledge of delivery tickets, bills of lading, vehicle inspection records, and other applicable transportation documentation.
