Tooling Planner
AmcorJob Description Position Summary The Injection Molding Tooling Planner is responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring all activities related to injection molds and tooling assets. This role ensures tooling availability, preventive maintenance scheduling, repair coordination, and inventory management to support production, quality, and customer requirements. The Tooling Planner works closely with Maintenance, Quality, Scheduling, and external tooling vendors to maximize tool performance and minimize downtime. Key Responsibilities Tooling Planning & Coordination Develop and maintain tooling schedules to support production requirements. Coordinate mold preventive maintenance activities. Track tooling status from design through production launch. Prioritize tooling repairs and maintenance based on production needs. Monitor tooling capacity and identify constraints that could impact production schedules. Preventive Maintenance Management Schedule and track preventive maintenance for injection molds and related tooling. Maintain mold maintenance records and documentation. Coordinate tooling inspections and ensure required maintenance activities are completed on schedule. Analyze maintenance history to identify recurring issues and recommend improvements. Vendor and Supplier Coordination Serve as the primary contact for external mold shops and tooling suppliers. Obtain repair and modification quotes. Track vendor performance, lead times, and tooling delivery schedules. Coordinate shipping and receiving of molds and tooling assets. Inventory & Documentation Control Maintain tooling inventory databases and asset records. Ensure all tooling documentation, drawings, maintenance logs, and engineering changes are current. Manage tooling identification and storage systems. Generate reports on tooling availability, maintenance compliance, and utilization. Continuous Improvement Analyze tooling downtime and maintenance trends. Recommend improvements to tooling reliability and mold performance. Participate in root cause investigations for tooling-related defects or downtime. Support lean manufacturing and cost-reduction initiatives. Qualifications Education Associate's degree in Manufacturing Technology, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Business, or related field preferred. Equivalent combination of education and manufacturing experience may be considered. Experience 3+ years of experience in production planning, or manufacturing operations. Experience with mold maintenance programs and tooling lifecycle management preferred. Experience working with ERP/MRP systems. Technical Knowledge Understanding of injection molding processes and mold construction. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. Experience using ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Plex, IQMS, or similar systems. Skills & Competencies Strong organizational and scheduling skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and follow-through. Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and external suppliers. Physical Requirements Ability to walk throughout manufacturing facilities. Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
