We are seeking a Technical Buyer to join our manufacturing organization partner. This position serves as a critical link between engineering, operations, suppliers, and procurement. The Technical Buyer will leverage their engineering background to source custom-machined, fabricated, and engineered components while ensuring quality, cost, and delivery objectives are met. The ideal candidate will possess strong engineering knowledge, the ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications, and experience working within steel, aluminum, machining, metal fabrication, or similar industrial manufacturing environments. Key Responsibilities Source and procure custom-engineered, machined, fabricated, and purchased components from qualified suppliers. Review engineering drawings, blueprints, CAD models, and technical specifications to develop accurate supplier RFQs and purchase orders. Evaluate supplier capabilities, pricing, lead times, and quality performance to identify optimal sourcing solutions. Collaborate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Operations teams on new product launches, design changes, and continuous improvement initiatives. Analyze supplier quotes and negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules. Identify cost reduction opportunities through supplier development, value engineering, and process improvements. Support inventory management efforts by balancing supply continuity with inventory targets. Monitor supplier performance metrics related to quality, delivery, responsiveness, and cost. Resolve technical and commercial issues with suppliers and internal stakeholders. Maintain purchasing records, contracts, and supplier documentation within ERP systems. Participate in supplier audits, qualification activities, and business reviews as required. Ensure compliance with company purchasing policies and quality standards. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required. 3-10 years of engineering experience within steel, aluminum, machining, metal fabrication, manufacturing, or a similar industrial environment. Interest in supporting purchasing, sourcing, supply chain, procurement, manufacturing, or supplier management activities strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T callouts, material specifications, and manufacturing requirements. Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and Microsoft Office applications. Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering, operations, and supplier organizations. Preferred Qualifications Experience sourcing machined components, steel products, aluminum products, fabricated assemblies, or custom-engineered parts. Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles. Exposure to supplier quality processes and technical supplier evaluations. APICS, CPSM, CPM, or related procurement certification is a plus.
