About Us: Outpost is building the backbone of freight. We’re reinventing how supply chain infrastructure works in America with carrier agnostic truck terminals. As a vertically integrated real estate, operations, and technology company, we acquire and operate mission-critical real estate across the country to serve the largest logistics providers in the world. Backed by $1B from Greenpoint Partners, we’re scaling and building the most valuable logistics network in the country. We thrive on accountability, integrity, and a shared drive to raise the bar. If you’re excited to reshape the industry alongside a high-performance team with a championship mindset that executes relentlessly, welcome aboard. Role Summary: We are seeking a Systems Engineer to keep the physical systems behind our platform running in the field — kiosks, edge compute, networking, power, cameras, and access control — and to make each new site launch faster and more repeatable than the last. Our site footprint is growing quickly, and when our system goes down, trucks stop moving and a customer’s yard stops running. This is a hands-on role: you will own uptime across the deployed fleet, troubleshoot hardware in the yard, run acceptance testing with our manufacturers and at new sites, integrate our access-control platform with customer security systems, and build the tooling and documentation that let a kiosk go from crate to live without a specialist on site. This position reports to Michael Sewell, Senior System Engineer. Location: Austin, TX (preferred) | Open to candidates in the Central or Eastern time zones This role is ideally based in our Austin office, where we value in-person collaboration. However, we're open to considering candidates based in the Central or Eastern time zones who are a strong fit for the role. Our stack: Ubuntu · NVIDIA Jetson · Industrial PCs and Edge Compute · Tailscale · Teltonika · Hanwha Cameras · Mercury Access Control Key Responsibilities: Monitor site uptime and health across the kiosk fleet, and drive the patterns behind repeat failures to zero; Troubleshoot hardware in the yard — edge compute, cameras, ID readers, displays, networking, power, enclosure — remotely where possible and on-site when it isn’t; Contribute to the next kiosk hardware revisions: component and layout changes, downstream impact on enclosure and access-control hardware, and power resilience including UPS sizing and failover; Own factory acceptance testing with our hardware manufacturers and site acceptance testing for new site launches; Deliver site-specific solutions, including integrating our access-control platform with customer-operated security and video management systems; Build configuration utilities and automation so a kiosk goes from crate to live without a specialist, and maintain the kiosk documentation — interconnect, network, power, accessories — plus on-call runbooks; and Participate in an on-call rotation, and help improve monitoring and alerting for field hardware. Qualifications: 3+ years in systems engineering, field engineering, edge infrastructure, IT infrastructure, or a similar hands-on role supporting production hardware in the field; Hands-on experience supporting Ubuntu or other Linux-based systems, including remote access, log review, and command-line troubleshooting; Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot across hardware, firmware, operating systems, networks, and applications, and to isolate a root cause rather than swap parts until it works; Working knowledge of Ethernet networking, IP addressing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, and cellular connectivity; Practical understanding of PoE, power supplies, power distribution, UPS and backup power, and recovery from power interruptions and brownouts; Experience supporting fleets of remote, unattended, or distributed systems, including remote monitoring, alerting, and recovery; Exper…
