Surplus Property Coordinator -
Western Carolina UniversityThe primary location of this position is on-site in Cullowhee, NC. This position is designated as being subject to the State of North Carolina Human Resources Act (SHRA). The Surplus Property Coordinator coordinates day-to-day activities for Western Carolina University’s university-wide surplus property process within established North Carolina Department of Administration rules, university policies, and internal procedures. This compliance-driven role supports activities across the surplus property lifecycle, including identifying, reviewing, documenting, transferring, recycling, selling, and tracking surplus property and applicable fixed assets in accordance with established requirements. The position works collaboratively with university departments, the Controller’s Office, Fixed Asset Coordinator, Work Control Crew, the Office of Sustainability, waste and recycling vendors, and the North Carolina Department of Administration to ensure surplus property activities are completed accurately, consistently, and within applicable state and university requirements. The position coordinates routine surplus warehouse activities and supports university surplus sales processes. Must be eligible to work in the United States without any immigration-related assistance or employment sponsorship. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position Ability to learn, interpret, and apply established university and state policies, procedures, regulations, and requirements related to surplus property, fixed assets, records management, and asset disposition. Ability to use university systems and related software, including AssetWorks, TMA, Catamart, Microsoft Office, and other applications, to maintain accurate inventories, documentation, tracking information, and transaction records. Proficiency in coordinating compliance-driven surplus property processes, including property transfers, recycling, vehicle surplus, public sales, competitive bidding, vendor coordination, and other asset-disposition activities within established procedural guardrails. Proficiency in written and verbal communication, customer service, routine issue resolution, sound judgment, process awareness, and establishing effective working relationships with university departments, employees, vendors, customers, and external partners.
