Job Purpose

The Shipping and Receiving Operator is responsible for coordinating daily shipping and receiving activities to ensure materials and finished goods are handled accurately, safely, and efficiently. This position supports production operations by preparing outgoing shipments, receiving incoming materials, maintaining accurate inventory records, and serving as a key point of contact between Select Finishing and customer shipping departments.

Duties

  • Shipping and Receiving
    • Receive, inspect, and record incoming goods to ensure they meet company and customer specifications.
    • Verify shipments against purchase orders, packing slips, and delivery documentation.
    • Prepare shipping documents including bill of lading (BOL), packing slips, and shipping labels.
    • Pick, pack, label, and stage outgoing orders to ensure shipments meet customer requirements and Select Finishing standards.
    • Coordinate with transportation carriers to schedule pickups and deliveries.
  • Warehouse and Logistics Operations
    • Work on the shipping dock to verify loads and unloads with forklift drivers.
    • Oversee the movement of goods within the cross-dock area to ensure proper handling and staging.
    • Operate forklifts and pallet jacks to move materials safely throughout the facility.
    • Maintain accurate records of material transfers and shipments.
  • Inventory and Communication
    • Conduct weekly inventory checks and communicate purchasing requirements to the Purchasing department.
    • Report receiving discrepancies, damaged materials, or incorrect shipments to the Production Supervisor and customer as required.
    • Communicate regularly with production, offline, and unloading teams regarding customer requirements and shipment schedules.
    • Respond to customer and supplier inquiries via phone or email in a professional and timely manner.
  • Equipment
    • Complete daily forklift inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Safety and Workplace Standards
    • Follow all company health and safety policies and procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Report all health and safety concerns, hazards, or incidents to the Production Supervisor or Manager.
    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment in shipping and warehouse areas.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • 1–3 years of experience in shipping/receiving, warehouse operations, or a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Forklift certification preferred (training may be provided).
  • Basic computer and data entry skills.
  • Ability to read and complete shipping documentation such as bills of lading and packing slips.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Working Conditions

  • Manufacturing and warehouse environment.
  • Exposure to noise, forklift traffic, and moving equipment.
  • Some tasks may be performed outdoors or in varying temperatures.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in designated areas.
