Supply Chain Manager, Semiconductor Tooling Logistics Procurement
TeslaWhat to Expect We are building Terafab – a vertically integrated semiconductor factory at an unprecedented scale. We are seeking a Supply Chain Manager to own global sourcing for the logistics that move semiconductor manufacturing equipment. You will build and execute the category strategy, run bid events, and manage the commercial relationships with specialized forwarders, project-cargo providers, and air-charter organizers that move high-value process tools and precision equipment into Tesla semiconductor manufacturing sites, including the Terafab program in Texas. This is a high-ownership role for someone who can take a category from strategy through contracting and day-to-day performance management, and who is comfortable presenting recommendations to a large group of stakeholders. What You'll Do Category Ownership & Program Support: Develop and execute the global category strategy for semiconductor manufacturing equipment logistics, including should-cost models, mode strategy (air charter, dedicated freighter, scheduled air, ocean/ground), and supplier segmentation; partner with Terafab, Facilities, and Logistics Operations on tool moves into Austin/Giga Texas and planned fab sites, setting delivery windows, chain-of-custody, and site-access expectations Sourcing & Bid Management: Run RFIs, RFPs, and RFQs for specialized air freight, air charter, hypercare, continuous monitoring, air-ride trucking, project logistics engineering, and technology-capable customs brokerage; award based on total cost, aircraft fit, transit reliability, damage-free delivery, and demonstrated semiconductor capital-equipment experience Special Handling, Monitoring & Trade Controls: Define commercial requirements for shock, vibration, tilt, temperature, and humidity control; require continuous real-time monitoring with exception alerts and post-move data packages; coordinate with Trade & Customs on export-license workflows, temporary import/export, ATA Carnet, and EOR/IOR for dual-use equipment Contracting & Commercial Terms: Negotiate NDAs, SOWs, Master Transportation Agreements, charter frameworks, high-value cargo and insurance schedules, and liability terms appropriate to multi-million-dollar tools, including SLA credits, claims windows, security requirements, and capacity commitments for planned and emergency uplift Cost Optimization & Risk Mitigation: Deliver measurable annual savings through bid rotations, right-mode decisions, accessorial control, and lane design; strengthen resiliency through dual-sourced forwarders, backup Texas gateways, and pre-agreed recovery playbooks for aircraft AOG, customs holds, and site-not-ready events Supplier Performance Management: Own the KPI framework (on-time uplift/delivery, damage-free receipt, install-window hit rate, monitoring-data timeliness, claims ratio, billing accuracy); lead quarterly business reviews, drive escalations and corrective action plans using sensor data as evidence Cross-Functional Leadership & Market Expertise: Partner with Terafab, Semiconductor Supply, Manufacturing Engineering, Finance, Trade & Customs, and Logistics Operations; represent the category in tool-install wave planning and new-site readiness; track freighter/charter capacity, aircraft types, fuel surcharges, and gateway congestion to inform bid timing and contract terms; coach analysts and cross-functional partners as category SME What You'll Bring Education & Experience: Bachelor's in Supply Chain, Industrial Engineering, International Business, or related field. 7–10 years in transportation/logistics procurement with hands-on ownership of project cargo, capital equipment, or semiconductor/high-tech manufacturing-equipment moves at an OEM, fab, advanced-manufacturing shipper, or specialized forwarder; demonstrated end-to-end category ownership from RFI/RFP through contract and supplier performance — general freight experience alone is not sufficient Leadership: Ability to influence cross-functiona…
