Company Description Silicon is an AI-native sourcing company focused on securing the critical physical building blocks that power emerging technologies. The organization works across rare earth elements, strategic metals, high-performance AI hardware, and compute infrastructure. By combining advanced data-driven methods with deep domain expertise, Silicon aims to optimize global supply chains for the next generation of technology. Team members collaborate in a fast-paced, innovation-oriented environment that values curiosity, rigorous analysis, and impact. Role Description The Critical Materials Research Intern role is a remote internship focused on supporting research into rare earths, strategic metals, and related supply chains. Day-to-day responsibilities include gathering and analyzing data on material availability, production, and geopolitical risk, as well as reviewing technical papers, market reports, and industry publications. The intern will help build and maintain datasets, summarize key findings, and prepare concise briefs and visualizations for internal stakeholders. This role also involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify sourcing opportunities, flag potential supply constraints, and contribute to internal knowledge bases on critical materials and AI infrastructure. Qualifications Strong analytical and research skills, including the ability to work with quantitative and qualitative data and synthesize complex information into clear insights. Background or coursework in materials science, chemistry, physics, engineering, economics, international relations, or a related field relevant to critical materials and technology supply chains. Proficiency with data tools such as spreadsheets, basic statistical software, or scripting languages (e.g., Python, R) for data cleaning and analysis is beneficial. Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to create structured reports, memos, and presentations for technical and non-technical audiences. Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a fast-moving environment. Demonstrated interest in AI, advanced hardware, energy transition, or global supply chain dynamics is a plus. Prior research experience through academic projects, labs, or internships is beneficial but not required. Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a university program; availability to commit to the internship schedule as agreed with the team.
