As a Central Dispatch Supervisor, you will be accountable for assigning and managing the daily workload of our over the road drivers focusing on the daily aspects of service performance and cost control with goals of controlling load quality, equipment balance and subsequent empty miles generated while maximizing driver and equipment utilization. This position will work directly with drivers and Service Center management to ensure the timely movement of all freight. Transportation dispatching knowledge and good communication skills are important to the success of the Central Dispatch Supervisor at Estes. Resolves routing issues, responsible for location-to-location freight movement/balance, cancellation resolutions, driver scheduling and monitoring of drivers’ performance. Plan dispatches to accommodate cost and service goals. Identifies problems and resolutions and acts on them. Conducts continuous analysis & direction of driver assignments. Implements scheduling for possible load consolidation Dispatches Line Haul drivers via information in computer system and phone communication with Service Centers in order to get freight moved in a timely manner within our service standards. Coaches and counsels drivers and makes decisions relative to performance, up to and including suspension pending investigation and/or termination. Provides performance feedback to Service Center Managers Dispatches drivers according to customer requests and in compliance with DOT regulations and company policies and procedures. Familiarity with a variety of the field’s concepts, practices and procedures is critical as position relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Performs a variety of complicated tasks in a fast paced environment with tight time constraints. Quality decision making skills essential; erroneous decisions will impact operating results and customer relationships. Interact with Field Supervision, Line Haul Drivers, Roadside Assistance Coordinators, Operations Planners, District Managers, Regional VP’s, and Senior Corporate Leadership team. Involves on the job training, usually 3-6 months Considered as essential Operations personnel Regular attendance is required. Qualifications: High School Diploma or General Educational Degree (GED), or any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background; College degree or equivalent work experience in Transportation preferred Supervisory experience in the trucking industry, preferably LTL (one year preferred) One year experience of Transportation Dispatch experience required. Transportation experience with analysis of freight movement, logistics, handling, coordination & scheduling highly preferred Knowledge of Dept. of Transportation and safety regulations Strong communication skills Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Access, TMW Software & PowerPoint Customer Service experience with internal and external customers Must be self- directed with strong analytical & problem solving skills Good geographic knowledge of the U.S. Must be able to work non-traditional schedules in support of a …
