Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a Board-approved training course for Transportation Support.
  • Successful completion of a physical examination by a Board-approved physician.
  • Successful completion of the dexterity test.
  • Valid Adult and Child First Aid/CPR/AED certificate issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • One (1) year of related experience.

Relevant work experience or education may be substituted to satisfy minimum qualifications.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Clear and concise oral and written communication skills; organizational and management skills.
  • Knowledge of general policies and procedures for the functional area of assignment.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA, Public Records, Sunshine Law, FERPA, and other laws/regulations related to student and employee privacy, public information, and records retention.
  • Knowledge of and experience with industry-standard equipment, materials, practices, computers, and applications.
  • Ability to professionally and effectively respond to customer needs and requests for service or assistance.
  • Ability to bend, twist, and have full range of motion.
  • Ability to administer First Aid/CPR/AED as needed for illness, injury, or life-threatening emergencies per certification training guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the bus operator and school staff in assisting special education students on the bus and in all emergencies.
  • Operate the bus side lift for loading and unloading students in wheelchairs.
  • Secure wheelchairs and other special needs equipment into place on the bus with the help of the bus operator.
  • Assist the bus operator in maintaining discipline on the bus.
  • Respond to dispatch requests.
  • Assist in keeping assigned bus clean.
  • Comply with all requirements of Transportation Services directives, Board policies, and State Board of Education regulations.
  • Attend parent and school conferences when requested.
  • Become familiar with specific equipment needs of exceptional education students.
  • Prepare reports (incidents, referrals, survey forms, etc.) for documentation purposes.
  • Assist in required bus evacuation drills.
  • Exhibit professionalism to include attendance, attire, attitude, and other directives from the District.
  • Administer First Aid/CPR/AED as needed for illness, injury, or life-threatening emergencies per certification training guidelines.
