PRIMARY PURPOSE:

Communicate and coordinate with bus operators, parents, and campus administrators to ensure prompt, efficient responses for disciplinary and medical alert information

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Minimum Education/Certification

High School Diploma or GED

Valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License with P & S Endorsements Valid Texas School Bus Driver Certificate

Acceptable Driving Record, as determined by DPS & Director of Logistics

Ability to maintain DOT Medical Examiner’s Certification

 

Minimum Experience

Three years experience as a certified Tomball ISD Bus Driver

Skilled in operating personal computers and software applications including Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint), 247 Security camera system, GPS system, and databases

Skilled in organizing and maintaining records, and analyzing data pertaining to student management Skilled in identifying patterns and trends, and drawing conclusions

Skilled in composing reports and correspondence

Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others Skilled in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing

Ability to work varied shifts

Ability to make and enforce quick decisions under pressure and in unforeseen circumstances

 

Special Knowledge/Skills

Must possess a strong understanding of and demonstrated ability with student management Must be knowledgeable and able to teach effective strategies in student management

Requires the ability to read a variety of informational documentation, directions, instructions, methods, and procedures related to the job of Student Management Coordinator

Requires the ability to write reports, policies, and procedures with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar

Requires the ability to record and deliver information to supervisors and officials; explain procedures and policies; and follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines, and objectives

Requires the ability to deal with people (i.e. staff, supervisors, general public, and officials) beyond giving and receiving instructions such as in interpreting departmental policies and procedures

Must be adaptable to performing under considerable stress when confronted with an emergency

A regular and dependable level of attendance is an essential function for this position

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Communicate with campuses for the most current medical alerts on students, and maintain updates for routes
  2. Coordinate and maintain records of student registration, release, and seating assignments
  1. Coordinate with bus operators to view bus videos in a timely manner
  2. Review bus videos with drivers to clarify student actions
  3. Assist bus operators with student safety reports and video footage
  4. Assist with and recommend to bus operators various techniques of maintaining effective discipline on buses
  5. Maintain a file on each route’s safety reports and consequences
  6. Collect and compile previous safety reports and journal entries on students to effectively communicate with campus administrators for consequences (removals/suspensions/warnings, etc)
  7. Assist in meeting with principals, parents, and students to resolve discipline issues
  8. Make & return phone calls to parents
  9. Prepare and maintain updates for teaching student management techniques to bus operators
  10. Teach Student Management Course to new-hires as required
  11. Train drivers to use Smart Tag
  12. Assign tablets to drivers
  13. Go on the road to assist drivers during route “shut-downs”
  14. Assist Director and Supervisors of Logistics as necessary
  15. Assist Dispatch with overflow calls, breaks, and be available to substitute
  16. Remain available to substitute-drive as necessary

EQUIPMENT USAGE:

 

Radio and telephone communications, computer, printer, fax, copier, bus video system, fueling system, smart tag, fire extinguisher, reflectors, bus evacuation, and special needs equipment, wheelchair lift (manual & electric)

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Sitting, bending, twisting, climbing stairs

Long hours on the computer

Seasonal weather environment

Subject to inclement weather conditions
