Shape the flow of steel at PEC Own the order, safety, and rhythm of our structural steel yard. As PEC’s Structural Steel Laydown & Logistics Coordinator, you’ll choreograph how material arrives, moves, and departs—keeping production supplied, drivers moving efficiently, and every travel lane clear. A day in the yard Walk the yard at start-up: verify clear access paths, check staging maps, and confirm priorities with the shop. Direct and support truck arrivals; unload structural shapes and fabricated components with certified forklift operation. Stage beams, columns, tube, plate, and angle by project and pickup schedule—so production never waits. Prepare and load materials for the Python structural steel processing machine. Continuously tidy the laydown areas—remove banding, scrap, and debris; keep housekeeping tight. Perform pre-operation checks on forklifts and other handling equipment; address or report hazards immediately. Coordinate with the Structural Steel Shop, fabrication team, and drivers to place materials in assigned zones. What you’ll tackle Oversee the day-to-day organization and material flow across the steel yard and laydown areas. Load/unload deliveries of structural steel, fabricated items, and equipment. Operate forklifts and approved handling equipment safely to move, stage, and organize stock. Maintain clearly marked, obstruction-free travel lanes for trucks, forklifts, lifts, and other equipment. Assist drivers by directing them to correct loading, unloading, and staging locations. Verify materials are placed in designated, labeled positions to prevent misplacement or damage. Use proper rigging practices for long, oversized, and heavy steel members. Support the Structural Steel Shop with material movement and related tasks as needed. Qualifications Required Active forklift certification with proven safe operating experience. Hands-on experience loading, unloading, staging, and transporting heavy materials. Comfort working around structural steel, trucks, forklifts, lifts, and heavy equipment. Ability to implement an organized staging plan and maintain a highly ordered laydown yard. Strong commitment to safety, organization, and housekeeping. Clear, professional communication with drivers, shop teams, supervisors, and peers. Reliable, self-directed, and able to prioritize with limited supervision. Capable of following instructions and sequencing material flow to match production and shipping needs. Preferred Background in a structural steel fabrication plant, steel yard, metal fabrication facility, or similar industrial setting. Experience handling beams, columns, tubing, plate, angle, and other structural shapes. Rigging experience for long, oversized, and heavy members. Familiarity with structural steel fabrication processes and equipment. Experience supporting automated structural processing equipment (e.g., Python or similar). Physical demands Work outdoors and within a structural steel/industrial environment across changing weather conditions. Stand, walk, bend, climb, and perform physical tasks throughout the shift. Safely navigate around moving vehicles, forklifts, cranes, lifts, machinery, and heavy materials. Lift and carry materials as needed to complete tasks.
