About the position
The Specialist, Cargo Movement & Logistics is responsible for the day-to-day coordination, planning, monitoring, and recovery of the airline's cargo operation across the network. Operating from the Operational Control Centre (OCC), this role serves as the central point of coordination between stations, customers, suppliers, internal operational teams, and external partners to ensure cargo moves safely, efficiently, and within established service commitments.
This position plays a key role in balancing customer requirements, operational priorities, network capacity, and service performance while proactively identifying opportunities to improve cargo movement, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Cargo Planning & Coordination
- Coordinate cargo movement across the network to ensure shipments are transported safely, efficiently, and within established service level agreements (SLAs).
- Act as a key liaison between stations, customers, cargo partners, suppliers, and internal operational teams.
- Monitor cargo volumes, movement status, capacity constraints, and operational priorities.
- Lead daily cargo planning discussions and operational coordination calls.
- Provide logistical support and guidance to stations and stakeholders across the network.
- Ensure timely communication of operational updates, disruptions, and recovery plans to internal and external stakeholders.
Operational Monitoring & Recovery
- Track and monitor cargo movements to ensure service commitments are met.
- Coordinate recovery efforts during irregular operations (IROPs), working closely with Duty Managers and operational teams.
- Support decision-making related to cargo prioritization and movement during operational disruptions.
- Identify operational risks and recommend mitigation strategies to minimize customer impact.
- Collaborate with operational leaders to optimize cargo flow and capacity utilization.
Performance Management & Reporting
- Develop and maintain daily, weekly, and monthly operational performance reports.
- Monitor cargo service levels, operational performance metrics, and quality indicators.
- Conduct root cause analysis on operational issues and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, service delivery, and operational processes.
- Support the development and continuous improvement of operational procedures and documentation.
Safety & Compliance
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture across cargo operations.
- Report, investigate, and assist with the resolution of safety-related events.
- Support the safe and compliant transportation of Dangerous Goods.
- Ensure cargo operations comply with company policies, regulatory requirements, and operational standards.
- Contribute to Safety Management System (SMS) initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
Team & Stakeholder Support
- Provide on-the-job training and support for new team members.
- Build strong working relationships with operational teams, stations, customers, and business partners.
- Deliver exceptional internal and external customer service.
- Participate in on-call rotations as required.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- Minimum two (2) years of operational experience in aviation, cargo, logistics, airport operations, load control, or a related environment.
- Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong understanding of cargo movement processes and operational logistics.
- Knowledge of airline networks, aircraft types, and cargo capacity considerations.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent analytical, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to customer service excellence.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, operationally focused environment.
- Ability to obtain and maintain an Airport Restricted Area Identity Card (RAIC).
Preferred
- Experience working in airline cargo operations, load control, airport operations, or an operational control centre.
- Working knowledge of AIMS, Skyline and cargo planning systems.
- Familiarity with cargo service level agreement (SLA) programs.
- Experience with Safety Management Systems (SMS) and operational reporting.
- Knowledge of Dangerous Goods regulations and procedures.
