Sourcing Manager – AMI 2.0 Location: Jackson, MI – Remote candidates considered; must be able to travel to Jackson periodically for team meetings and project support Work Locations: One Energy Plaza & Parnall Office, Jackson, MI Department: AMI 2.0 / Grid Modernization Interview Timeline: Interviews expected to be scheduled within the next few weeks Job Summary Consumers Energy is advancing its Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) 2.0 program, building on approximately 15 years of existing AMI operations. The next phase will focus on enhanced smart-meter capabilities, data analytics, interoperability, communication protocols, centralized management, and edge components. The Sourcing Manager will serve as the dedicated sourcing and procurement lead for the AMI 2.0 program. This person will develop sourcing strategies, identify qualified suppliers, manage RFI/RFP activities, support contracting, and maintain supplier relationships across the utility metering and grid-modernization supply chain. Key Responsibilities Lead sourcing and procurement activities for the AMI 2.0 program . Develop and execute sourcing strategies aligned with project requirements. Identify and evaluate materials, equipment, technologies, and vendors required for the program. Manage RFI and RFP processes, including vendor evaluation and analysis. Analyze supplier proposals, pricing, capabilities, and sourcing results. Support contract negotiations and contracting activities. Manage supplier/vendor relationships throughout the project lifecycle. Partner closely with the AMI project team and internal business stakeholders. Support sourcing initiatives involving smart meters, data analytics, interoperability, communication protocols, and edge components . Apply category-management principles to develop effective procurement strategies. Monitor supplier performance and maintain strong vendor partnerships. Travel to Jackson, MI periodically to support project and team requirements. Required Qualifications Previous experience supporting AMI, smart metering, utility metering, or grid-modernization projects . Strong understanding of the electric utility/power industry . Experience with sourcing, procurement, and strategic supplier management. Knowledge of the utility metering and grid-modernization vendor/supply base. Experience managing RFI/RFP processes . Experience supporting contracting and supplier negotiations . Strong category-management knowledge and experience. Proven supplier/vendor relationship management skills. Strong communication and stakeholder-management abilities. Ability to work independently as the dedicated sourcing owner for a major program. Ability and willingness to travel to Jackson, MI periodically. Preferred Qualifications Experience with AMI 2.0 or advanced smart-metering technologies. Knowledge of smart-meter communication protocols and interoperability. Experience with data analytics within utility or metering environments. Understanding of centralized AMI management platforms and edge technologies. Experience supporting large-scale grid modernization initiatives. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a strategic sourcing/procurement professional with direct utility or AMI experience who understands the smart-metering supply chain and can independently manage sourcing activities for a large-scale grid-modernization program. The candidate should be comfortable working with technical stakeholders, suppliers, procurement teams, and project leadership.
