Shop & Yard Associate

Position Summary Jones Commercial Fence is seeking a dependable, organized, and hardworking Shop & Yard Associate to support daily shop, yard, and inventory operations. This position plays an important role in ensuring materials are accurately received, organized, and prepared for projects. Responsibilities include inventory management, material handling, loading and unloading deliveries, and transporting materials to job sites or suppliers as needed. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-conscious, comfortable working in a hands-on environment, and familiar with fencing materials, steel products, and general warehouse operations. Key Responsibilities Inventory Management & Organization Pull, count, and prepare materials according to job requirements and material lists. Receive, inspect, and put away incoming materials and supplies. Maintain accurate inventory counts and assist with routine physical inventory checks. Organize and maintain designated inventory locations to ensure materials are accessible and properly stored. Identify and communicate inventory discrepancies, damaged materials, or shortages. Assist with maintaining an organized, clean, and efficient shop and yard. Material Handling & Shop Operations Load, unload, move, and stage fencing materials, steel products, and related supplies. Safely operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment. Prepare and stage materials for upcoming projects, deliveries, and pickups. Assist with organizing and maintaining steel, fencing components, fittings, and other inventory. Follow established safety procedures when handling heavy or oversized materials. Support general shop and yard operations as needed. Transportation & Deliveries Pick up materials and supplies from vendors and suppliers. Deliver materials, equipment, and supplies to job sites or designated locations. Verify materials and quantities during pickups and deliveries. Properly secure loads and follow safe loading and transportation practices. Maintain communication with shop personnel and project teams regarding pickups, deliveries, and material needs. Operate company vehicles safely and in accordance with applicable traffic laws and company policies. Qualifications Required Experience in warehouse operations, material handling, inventory management, or a similar hands-on environment. Ability to accurately count, organize, and track materials. Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification. Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving requirements. Ability to safely lift, carry, and move materials with appropriate equipment or assistance. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Dependable attendance, a strong work ethic, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Commitment to workplace safety and proper equipment operation. Valid Driver’s License Preferred Previous experience in the fencing, construction, steel, or building materials industry. Familiarity with commercial fencing materials, fittings, hardware, and components. Knowledge of steel products, material types, and common dimensions. Experience loading and unloading trucks and trailers. Experience performing inventory counts and preparing materials for construction projects. Physical & Work Environment Requirements Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying materials throughout the workday. Ability to work in both indoor shop and outdoor yard environments. Comfortable working in varying weather conditions. Ability to safely operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment. Ability to follow all company safety policies and utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE).
