Shop and Field Service Supervisor
Morse Machining Ltd.Position Summary Morse Machining, in partnership with the Scotia Investments Family of Companies, is a progressive and growing company based in Hantsport, Nova Scotia. The Shop and Field Service Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day-to-day shop and field service operations, supporting workflow planning and scheduling, assisting with estimating and quoting, and ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, accurately, and on time. Reporting to the General Manager, this role requires a dependable, hands-on leader who can support skilled trades teams, maintain strong customer service standards, and contribute to continuous improvement across machining, millwright, fabrication and field service. Key Responsibilities · Lead day-to-day operations for shop and field service teams, including machinists, millwrights, mechanics, apprentices, and other skilled trades employees. · Plan, schedule, and prioritize work to meet customer requirements, production timelines, and project deadlines. · Monitor workflow, job progress, and resource allocation to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, accurately, and on time. · Support estimating and quoting by reviewing job requirements, labour needs, materials, timelines, specifications, and customer expectations. · Oversee inventory management for parts, materials, tools, supplies, and equipment required to support shop and service operations. · Support quality control by ensuring work meets specifications, drawings, customer requirements, and internal standards. · Coordinate deliveries, including CKF-related deliveries and other customer or supplier requirements. · Maintain accurate records related to work orders, estimates, schedules, inventory, quality, safety, and customer communication. Leadership, Safety, and Continuous Improvement · Provide coaching, guidance, and day-to-day supervision to employees, including supporting apprentices and helping develop team capability. · Promote and support a strong safety culture through safe work practices, hazard identification, housekeeping, and compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. · Identify and implement practical process improvements that enhance efficiency, communication, safety, productivity, quality, and customer service. · Work collaboratively with trades employees, customers, suppliers, leadership, and other stakeholders to keep work moving and resolve issues effectively. Qualifications and Experience · Previous supervisory, operations, or project coordination experience in a skilled trades, industrial, manufacturing, service, maintenance, machining, millwright, fabrication, or equipment repair environment. · Experience leading or supervising skilled trades employees is preferred. · Strong understanding of estimating, quoting, scheduling, inventory management, quality control, and process improvement. · Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, work orders, and customer requirements. · Knowledge of machining, welding, fabrication, industrial maintenance, mobile equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical systems, and related shop or field service work is considered an asset. · Comfort using technology, including email, scheduling tools, work order systems, spreadsheets, and other business software.
