Shipping & Receiving Lead
Tech CastingsShipping & Receiving Lead Shirley, IN Position summary The Shipping & Receiving Lead runs the dock at Tech Castings: every inbound alloy, wax and ceramic material and every outbound aerospace casting passes through this role. The Lead makes sure each shipment is accurate, traceable to its heat and lot, correctly certified, export-compliant and packaged to customer specification. The role leads the shipping and receiving team on its shift and is the first line of defense against nonconforming, suspect or counterfeit material entering the plant. Key responsibilities Receiving Receive, inspect and log all inbound material: superalloy and stainless ingot/revert, casting wax, ceramic slurry, refractory stucco, cores, filters, crucibles, chemicals and MRO supplies. Verify every receipt against the purchase order, packing list and mill or material certification before release; flag discrepancies in quantity, heat/lot number, chemistry or spec. Route material requiring receiving inspection to Quality and hold it in a segregated area until released. Apply counterfeit and suspect-material controls: confirm approved-supplier status, intact packaging and traceable documentation. Enforce shelf-life and storage requirements for wax, binders and chemicals (FIFO, date labeling, temperature limits). Record receipts in the ERP (NetSuite) the same day, with heat/lot traceability preserved. Shipping Pick, verify, package and ship finished castings to customer, distributor and outside-processor (HIP, heat treat, machining, NDT) destinations. Assemble and verify the shipping data package for each order: certificate of conformance, material and test certifications, inspection reports, FAI documentation and serialized part lists. Package to customer and contract requirements, including FOD protection, corrosion prevention, part separation and labeling. Prepare bills of lading, packing slips and carrier paperwork; select carriers and modes to meet cost and delivery targets. Classify and document hazardous materials shipments under DOT 49 CFR and IATA where applicable. Inventory and dock control Maintain accurate inventory locations for raw material, WIP transfers and finished goods; lead cycle counts and support the annual physical inventory. Keep the dock, staging and storage areas organized, labeled and compliant with 5S standards. Track inbound and outbound schedules and communicate delays to Purchasing, Production Control and Customer Service. Leadership and quality system Assign daily work, train and coach clerks and material handlers, and certify them on dock procedures. Write and maintain shipping and receiving work instructions within the AS9100 quality system; support customer, registrar and Nadcap audits. Initiate nonconformance reports and corrective actions for shipping errors, damage and supplier documentation issues. Model and enforce safe forklift, rigging and material-handling practices; investigate and report incidents. Track and report dock KPIs: on-time shipment, shipping accuracy, receipt-to-system time and damage claims. Qualifications Required High school diploma or GED. 3+ years of shipping and receiving experience in a manufacturing environment, including at least 1 year in a lead or supervisory role. Experience with material certifications and lot traceability in a regulated industry (aerospace, defense, medical or automotive). Working knowledge of an ERP or inventory system for receipts, transfers and shipments. Valid forklift certification, or ability to obtain it within 30 days of hire. Must be a U.S. person as defined by ITAR (22 CFR 120.62), because the role handles export-controlled parts and technical data. Preferred Experience in an AS9100-certified shop, ideally a foundry, forge or casting supplier. DOT hazardous materials shipping certification (49 CFR) and IATA dangerous goods training. NetSuite experience. Associate degree or coursework in supply chain, logistics or business. Skills and abilities Attention to detai…
