Shipping Operations Lead

Job Overview Title: SHIPPING OPERATIONS LEAD Position Summary Penco Products is accepting internal applications for the position of Shipping Operations Lead at our Hamilton facility. This position is responsible for assisting the Shipping Manager with daily shipping operations while developing the knowledge, skills, and leadership abilities necessary for potential future advancement into a management role. The Shipping Operations Lead will help coordinate shipping activities, support department personnel, ensure accurate and timely shipments, and maintain a safe and efficient work environment. This position will work directly with the current Shipping Manager to gain hands-on experience in departmental operations, employee supervision, scheduling, and administrative responsibilities. Essential Job Responsibilities Assist the Shipping Manager with coordinating daily shipping operations and establishing work priorities. Support the preparation, staging, loading, and shipment of customer orders and finished products. Assist with assigning daily work activities and providing directions to shipping personnel. Learn and assist with employee training, coaching, scheduling, and performance management. Coordinate carrier pickups, truck schedules, and transportation requirements. Ensure products are properly staged, packaged, labeled, and loaded to prevent damage and ensure shipment accuracy. Prepare and verify shipping documentation, including Bills of Lading, packing lists, and freight paperwork. Learn and utilize company ERP/WMS systems to maintain accurate shipping and inventory records. Assist with identifying and resolving shipping discrepancies, shortages, damages, and delays. Communicate with Production, Customer Service, Packing, and other departments regarding shipping priorities and product availability. Monitor shipping activities to ensure compliance with company safety procedures and operational standards. Assist with maintaining organized shipping areas, loading docks, staging lanes, and finished goods storage. Support inventory accuracy and monitor shipping supplies and equipment needs. Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment as needed. Assist the Shipping Manager with departmental reporting, productivity monitoring, and process improvements. Participate in leadership development and cross-training to gain a comprehensive understanding of shipping operations. Assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the Shipping Manager. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Previous experience in shipping, warehouse, logistics, manufacturing, or distribution operations preferred. Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred but not required. Knowledge of shipping procedures, material handling, and freight documentation preferred. Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Basic computer skills: experience with ERP, WMS, or inventory systems preferred. Forklift experience required; certification or ability to obtain certification. Demonstrated leadership potential, initiative, accountability, and willingness to learn. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Good attendance and work performance. Strong commitment to safety, accuracy, and teamwork. Ability to meet the physical demands of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Frequent bending, lifting, reaching, and repetitive movements. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, with assistance or appropriate equipment when needed. Ability to safely operate forklifts and other material-handling equipment. Ability to work around trucks, loading docks, warehouse equipment, noise, and varying temperatures.
