Shipping Manager
Scion StaffingScion Staffing is conducting a search for a Shipping Manager on behalf of our client, an established auction house in Dallas, Texas. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced shipping or logistics leader who enjoys developing teams and overseeing the careful handling of valuable merchandise. Candidates with director-level experience are also encouraged to apply. Reporting to the VP of Operations, the Shipping Manager will lead a growing team of approximately 30 shipping staff and oversee daily shipping operations. The ideal candidate brings an approachable but firm leadership style, strong analytical skills, and a thoughtful approach to improving processes while learning the organization’s team and culture. Responsibilities Oversee daily shipping operations, including packing, labeling, documentation, tracking, and timely delivery. Lead, train, and support approximately 30 shipping employees, promoting accountability, collaboration, and positive team morale. Coordinate staffing and workflow to meet shipping deadlines and changing business demands. Maintain quality control procedures for handling and packaging valuable and fragile items. Coordinate with the inventory team to maintain accurate records and proper storage of merchandise awaiting shipment. Manage carrier coordination, primarily through FedEx, and collaborate with the dedicated international shipping employee. Resolve shipping inquiries, delivery issues, and customer concerns. Evaluate shipping performance, identify problems, and implement practical solutions to improve efficiency and control costs. Prepare reports on shipping activity, performance metrics, and inventory status. Ensure shipping practices comply with applicable regulations and company policies. Qualifications At least five years of experience in shipping, logistics, or a related field, including at least two years in a management role. Demonstrated experience leading shipping or warehouse teams and managing daily operational priorities. Knowledge of safe packing and handling practices for valuable or fragile merchandise; experience with fine art, antiques, collectibles, or auction operations is a plus. Proficiency with shipping software and inventory management systems. Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. An adaptable, solution-oriented approach and the ability to respond effectively to shifting priorities. Strong communication skills and an approachable leadership style that balances accountability with team support. A record of sustained contributions and progression in previous roles. A bachelor’s degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field is preferred. Schedule and Physical Requirements Fully onsite in Dallas, Texas. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed, particularly during the holiday season. Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and move heavy items as needed.
