Shipping Crate Builder (Position)Primary Flow Signal (PFS) is seeking a reliable, hands-on individual to join our manufacturing team as a Shipping Crate Builder.PFS manufactures a wide variety of engineered flow measurement products and complex machined and fabricated components for industrial, water/wastewater, Aerospace, and Defense customers. Our products vary significantly in size, weight, and configuration, requiring custom-built wooden crates, skids, and packaging to ensure they arrive safely at their destination.This position is responsible for measuring products, determining appropriate crate dimensions, constructing custom wooden crates and skids, and properly securing finished equipment for shipment. This is a hands-on position requiring good mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work safely and independently.
Position Responsibilities:Build custom wooden shipping crates, boxes, skids, and pallets based on the size and configuration of finished products.Measure products accurately and determine appropriate crate dimensions and construction requirements.Cut lumber, plywood, and other packaging materials using saws and woodworking equipment.Assemble crates using pneumatic nail guns, screws, drills, impact drivers, and other hand and power tools.Properly block, brace, strap, and secure equipment to prevent movement or damage during transportation.Package machined components and fabricated assemblies to protect finished surfaces, flange faces, instrumentation, and other critical features.Apply protective packaging materials including foam, plastic wrap, vapor barriers, padding, and other materials as required.Assist with loading and unloading products using forklifts, pallet jacks, cranes, and other material-handling equipment as appropriate.Verify products, quantities, and packaging against shipping documentation prior to shipment.Apply shipping labels, markings, identification, and required documentation to completed packages.Maintain an organized inventory of lumber, plywood, fasteners, and packaging materials.Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.Coordinate with Shipping, Inspection, Production, and Project Management personnel to ensure products are properly packaged and ready for scheduled shipment.Perform other shipping, material-handling, or general manufacturing support activities as needed.
Skills & Qualifications:Previous experience with shipping crate construction, carpentry, woodworking, industrial packaging, or a similar hands-on trade is preferred.Ability to accurately use a tape measure and perform basic dimensional calculations.Comfortable operating saws, drills, pneumatic nail guns, impact drivers, and common woodworking tools.Good mechanical aptitude and ability to determine practical methods for securely packaging products of different sizes, shapes, and weights.Ability to read basic drawings, sketches, dimensions, and shipping instructions.Forklift and material-handling experience is preferred.Ability to work independently while coordinating with other departments.Strong attention to detail and commitment to protecting finished products from shipping damage.Dependable attendance and ability to work in a fast
