Shipping Clerk – Cold Storage FacilityJob SummaryThe Shipping Clerk is responsible for coordinating and processing outgoing shipments in a cold storage warehouse environment. This position ensures that orders are accurately picked, verified, documented, staged, and shipped according to customer requirements while maintaining proper temperature control and product integrity. The Shipping Clerk works closely with forklift operators, warehouse personnel, transportation providers, and management to ensure timely and accurate shipments while following all food safety, quality, and workplace safety procedures.Essential Job ResponsibilitiesQualifications and SkillsWork Environment and Physical RequirementsPerformance Expectations Prepare, process, and verify shipping orders, bills of lading, packing lists, invoices, pallet labels, and other required shipping documentation. Verify product descriptions, item numbers, lot numbers, quantities, pallet counts, and customer orders before shipment. Coordinate and schedule outgoing shipments with carriers, transportation providers, and warehouse personnel. Ensure products are properly labeled, palletized, wrapped, and prepared for shipment according to customer and company requirements. Verify that outgoing products are staged and maintained in the appropriate refrigerated or frozen storage areas until loading. Coordinate with forklift operators to move, stage, and load products safely and efficiently. Verify trailer cleanliness, condition, and required temperature settings before loading, according to company procedures. Monitor and document required product or trailer temperatures when applicable to ensure cold chain integrity. Ensure shipments are loaded within required time frames to minimize temperature fluctuations and protect product quality. Maintain accurate shipment records, inventory transactions, lot traceability, and shipping information in the warehouse management system (WMS) or ERP system. Communicate with carriers, customer service, inventory control, and warehouse teams regarding shipment schedules, delays, shortages, and discrepancies. Investigate and report damaged products, incorrect quantities, missing pallets, labeling errors, and other shipping issues. Ensure all shipping activities comply with company policies, food safety standards, sanitation requirements, and applicable regulatory guidelines. Maintain organized shipping docks, staging areas, and shipping documentation while following cold storage safety procedures. Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including appropriate cold-weather gear, when working in refrigerated or freezer environments. Assist with inventory counts, cycle counts, and other warehouse activities as needed. Perform additional shipping, clerical, and warehouse duties as assigned by management. High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous shipping, receiving, or warehouse experience preferred. Experience working in a refrigerated warehouse, freezer, or cold storage facility is a plus. Basic computer skills and experience with warehouse management systems, ERP systems, and Microsoft Office. Knowledge of shipping documentation, inventory control, and lot tracking procedures. Understanding of cold chain management and temperature-sensitive product handling preferred. Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to communicate effectively with warehouse staff, carriers, supervisors, and other departments. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet shipping deadlines. Ability to work in refrigerated and freezer temperatures while wearing required protective equipment. Forklift experience or certification is a plus. Work primarily in a cold storage warehouse, refrigerated environment, or freezer facility.
