Shipping & Receiving Team Lead Job Type: Full-Time Department: Shipping & Receiving Reports To: Operations/Shop Management Position Summary We are looking for a dependable, organized, and hands-on Shipping & Receiving Team Lead to oversee the day-to-day activities of our shipping and receiving area. This position plays an important role in keeping material, parts, paperwork, and shipments moving efficiently throughout the shop. The ideal candidate is a strong team player who can manage multiple priorities, communicate with several departments, and stay organized in a fast-paced machine and gear shop environment. This person will work closely with machinists, drivers, production, purchasing, and management to make sure materials and finished products are where they need to be, when they need to be. Key Responsibilities Lead the daily activities of the Shipping & Receiving area. Receive, inspect, identify, and properly route incoming materials and products. Check material against packing slips, purchase orders, and other paperwork. Maintain accurate receiving and shipping documentation. Build and prepare boxes, crates, pallets, and other packaging as needed. Package finished parts and equipment securely for shipment. Schedule and set up shipments as needed. Prepare shipping paperwork, labels, and documentation. Coordinate with multiple departments to determine material and shipping priorities. Move and stage material for machinists and other shop personnel. Help keep jobs supplied with the correct material and ensure material is moved in a timely manner. Work closely with drivers to get loads organized, secured, and ready for pickup or delivery. Assist with loading and unloading trucks and deliveries. Communicate shipment status and material issues to the appropriate departments. Identify discrepancies, damaged material, missing paperwork, or other receiving/shipping issues and report them promptly. Keep the shipping and receiving area organized, clean, and safe. Prioritize work based on production schedules, shipment deadlines, and shop needs. Help train and support other employees working in the shipping and receiving area. Work as part of the overall shop team and assist other departments when needed. Follow company safety procedures and proper material-handling practices. Qualifications & Skills Previous shipping, receiving, warehouse, manufacturing, or machine-shop experience preferred. Strong time-management and organizational skills . Ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities throughout the day. Strong attention to detail, especially with material identification and paperwork. Good communication skills and the ability to work with multiple departments. Ability to take direction while also working independently. Dependable, responsible, and willing to take ownership of the shipping and receiving area. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Comfortable working in a hands-on manufacturing environment. Ability to safely lift, move, and handle materials and packages. Forklift experience is preferred; training may be provided if needed. Basic computer skills and the ability to learn shipping/receiving software and company systems. Mechanical or machine-shop experience is a plus. You should be comfortable jumping between tasks, helping machinists get the material they need, coordinating with drivers, preparing shipments, handling paperwork, and keeping things moving when priorities change.
