Shipping & Receiving Manager Location: Bensenville, IL Company: Floral Express Employment Type: Full-Time Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–4:00 PM Reports To: Operations Manager / General Manager Position Summary Floral Express is seeking an experienced and hands-on Shipping & Receiving Manager to oversee the daily shipping and receiving operations at our Bensenville, Illinois location. This position will be responsible for managing the accurate and timely receipt, inspection, documentation, storage, staging, and shipment of fresh flowers, fish, and related products. The Shipping & Receiving Manager will lead the Shipping & Receiving team, coordinate closely with warehouse and operations personnel, and ensure products move efficiently while maintaining accuracy, quality, food safety, and customer service standards. The ideal candidate is a strong leader who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, perishable-product environment and can effectively balance people management, operational execution, inventory accuracy, and customer service. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Shipping & Receiving Operations Oversee all daily shipping and receiving activities for the Bensenville facility. Manage the receipt of inbound shipments of flowers, fish, and related products. Ensure incoming deliveries are accurately verified against purchase orders, packing slips, and shipping documentation. Oversee inspection of incoming products for quality, quantity, condition, and damage. Ensure accurate entry of receiving and shipping information into warehouse management and inventory systems. Manage the preparation and processing of outbound shipments according to customer requirements and delivery schedules. Ensure shipping labels, bills of lading, manifests, and other transportation documentation are completed accurately. Coordinate the timely movement of products between Shipping & Receiving, Warehouse, Operations, and Transportation. Ensure products are properly received, staged, stored, and prepared for shipment based on the handling requirements of perishable products. Team Leadership & Management Supervise, train, and provide direction to Shipping & Receiving employees. Establish daily priorities and ensure adequate staffing to meet operational requirements. Monitor employee performance, attendance, productivity, and adherence to company policies. Train employees on proper shipping, receiving, inventory, food safety, and quality procedures. Hold employees accountable for accuracy, productivity, safety, and customer service. Provide coaching and corrective direction when necessary. Promote teamwork and effective communication between Shipping & Receiving and other departments. Assist with hiring, onboarding, and development of Shipping & Receiving team members. Inventory & Quality Control Maintain inventory accuracy through proper receiving, shipping, documentation, and cycle counting procedures. Monitor inventory levels and investigate discrepancies. Ensure damaged, short, over, or incorrect shipments are properly documented and communicated. Monitor product quality and escalate issues involving fresh flowers, fish, or other perishable products. Work with Operations and Inventory personnel to identify and resolve inventory issues. Ensure proper product rotation, handling, staging, and storage practices are followed. Customer, Vendor & Transportation Coordination Coordinate with vendors regarding incoming shipments, discrepancies, damages, and delivery issues. Communicate with customers regarding shipping requirements, product availability, and shipment concerns as needed. Coordinate with drivers and transportation personnel to ensure outbound shipments are prepared accurately and on schedule. Help resolve shipping and receiving issues quickly and professionally.
