Heartland FabricationJOB PURPOSE The Shipping and Receiving Clerk performs routine shipping, receiving, inventory control, material handling, documentation, and production-support activities. This position verifies incoming and outgoing materials, maintains accurate Global Shop and inventory records, prepares shipping documents, operates authorized equipment, and helps resolve routine material and transaction issues. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Shipping, Receiving & Documentation Receive and verify incoming plate, structural steel (by railcar or truck), plant supplies, and other materials against purchase orders and packing documents; report shortages, overages, damage, or documentation issues. Prepare packing slips, bills of lading, and other outbound documentation; verify outgoing material, quantity, identification, destination, and carrier information before release. Label, stage, pack, load, unload, and deliver material for production and facility operations. Maintain clean, organized, and clearly identified storage, loading, and staging areas. Inventory Control & Tracking Accurately enter receipts, issues, transfers, adjustments, and storage locations in Global Shop or other approved systems. Perform cycle counts, assist with physical inventories and audits, and investigate discrepancies between system balances and physical counts. Make or request inventory corrections only in accordance with established authorization and documentation requirements. Maintain material identification, traceability, and location accuracy; report replenishment needs when minimum levels are reached. Equipment & Material Handling Operate forklifts, cranes, pallet-handling equipment, and other assigned equipment only after required training, evaluation, and company authorization. Assess load weight, dimensions, balance, equipment capacity, and travel path before movement; follow safe loading, stacking, load-securement, rigging, and spotter requirements. Complete required pre-operation inspections and report equipment deficiencies. Problem Solving & Performance Expectations Independently complete routine shipping, receiving, inventory, and material-movement work accurately and promptly. Resolve routine issues within established procedures; escalate unusual, unresolved, or higher-risk issues. Support changing production, carrier, and material-delivery priorities. Communicate concerns and work professionally with Production, Purchasing, Safety, Quality, suppliers, carriers, drivers, customers, and coworkers. Maintain dependable attendance and consistent procedure compliance. Safety & Compliance Follow required PPE, safety, environmental, and emergency-response procedures, including explosion-proof equipment requirements in designated paint or hazardous-material storage areas. Report spills immediately and assist with containment or cleanup only when trained, equipped, and authorized. Immediately report injuries, incidents, near misses, damaged material or equipment, and unsafe conditions. Follow requirements applicable to safety-sensitive positions and the HLF Drug and Alcohol Policy. COMPETENCIES: Attention to Detail – Produces accurate counts, records, and documentation.
