Shipper/Receiver/Forklift Operator

About us About the Role We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Shipper/Receiver to join our fabrication and machine shop. The successful candidate will be responsible for receiving, inspecting, packaging, documenting, storing, and shipping materials, components, and finished products. In addition to shipping and receiving duties, the successful candidate will assist trades personnel by moving jobs in and out of the shop, preparing materials for painting, conducting weekly inventory counts of storage bins, and supporting general housekeeping and shop maintenance activities. This position plays an important role in ensuring that incoming materials meet company and customer specifications and that outgoing shipments are packaged, labelled, and documented accurately and securely. Key Responsibilities Prepare and package fabricated and machined components for shipment according to customer requirements, drawings, and specifications. Verify parts, quantities, and documentation for all incoming and outgoing shipments. Prepare packing slips, labels, bills of lading, customs paperwork, and other shipping documents. Coordinate carrier pickups, deliveries, and freight scheduling, including LTL, courier, and flatbed transportation. Load outbound trucks and safely handle materials during loading and unloading. Receive incoming materials, components, and supplies, verifying contents against purchase orders and packing slips. Inspect incoming goods for damage, defects, or discrepancies and report issues Operate 5,000 lb, 10,000 lb, and 30,000 lb forklifts safely. Record received materials accurately in the Access Mat/Subcon tab. Maintain accurate electronic and hard-copy shipping and receiving records. Communicate with Assistant Shop Supervisor and other departments regarding material or shipping issues. Assist with documentation, certifications, and quality-control requirements. Use available time to assist with facility maintenance and clean-up activities. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Valid Class 5 driver’s license. Valid forklift certification. At least two years of experience in shipping and receiving, preferably in a fabrication, machining, or industrial manufacturing environment. Required Skills and Knowledge Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company safety procedures. Fluent in English, both written and verbal. Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook. Comfortable communicating by email. Able to read and interpret work orders, drawings, and packing lists. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Ability to manage multiple tasks accurately and efficiently. Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 lb. and handle materials of varying weights and sizes. Ability to stand, bend, and walk for extended periods throughout the facility. Comfort working in an industrial environment with noise, dust, and temperature variations.
