Job Description Summary

GE Vernova's Fuel Components Operations (FCO) team is seeking a Shift Operations Leader to oversee weekend production at our Wilmington, NC manufacturing facility. In this role, you will lead a skilled team of production operators in the manufacturing of critical components for nuclear fuel bundles — parts that directly support our internal customer, Fuel Manufacturing Operations (FMO).

This is a 3-day weekend schedule (Friday–Sunday, 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM), offering a compelling work-life balance during the week while playing a mission-critical role in keeping our production operations running smoothly.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Production Execution: Receive weekly priorities via shift pass-down on Friday and drive successful completion of those goals across Saturday and Sunday, ensuring the shop is set up for the following week's success.

  • Workforce Orchestration: Manage and flex a team of up to 8 direct reports (a mix of GE employees and contractors), strategically shifting personnel across workstations to maintain balanced production flow and meet output targets.
  • Material Flow Management: Monitor and manage Continuous Work-In-Process (CONWIP) levels across the shop floor, making real-time decisions to maintain optimal material balance — including proactively slowing or halting processes to prevent imbalance downstream.
  • Problem Solving & Troubleshooting: Serve as the primary driver of issue resolution during the weekend shift, operating with limited maintenance and engineering support, and taking ownership of challenges as they arise.
  • Communication & Shift Handoff: Ask the right questions during Friday pass-down to gather all critical information needed for a productive weekend. Following the weekend shift, provide thorough and accurate reporting on outcomes to set the weekday team up for success.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and recommend opportunities to improve processes, workflows, and team efficiency. This role is what you make of it — those who take initiative will have visible impact.
  • People Leadership: Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching and feedback, and maintain a culture of accountability and professional growth among direct reports.
  • Safety Compliance: Champion a safe working environment and ensure all team members adhere to site safety protocols and GE Vernova standards.
  • Function as the front-line leader when needed and provide ongoing leadership of assigned personnel.
  • Look for opportunities for automation and new technologies in all processes
  • Assist the Kaizen Promotion Officer with managing the overall continuous improvement plan for the facility.
  • Plans standardized work to enhance employee capabilities, safety, customer satisfaction and efficiencies.
  • Work with employees and management to develop ways to improve production processes.
  • Prioritize, coordinate assistance, keep a visual log of in-process projects, measure improvements and celebrate implementations.
  • Participate in the hiring and promotions of shop workforce.
  • Ensure team members are provided adequate training, resources and support to assume safe and compliant manufacturing practices in a nuclear regulated environment.
  • Be responsible for meeting the shift’s strict EHS requirements, product quality requirements, and production schedule requirements.
  • Work with manufacturing, engineering, support functions and leadership to provide technical, quality, and production management.
  • Communicate business goals, programs, and processes to team members and ensure that they are included as a part of the overall success of the organization.
  • Develop and support the growth of all team members by promoting team engagement, ownership, and continuous training.
  • Support manufacturing leaders in the strategic planning of manpower, equipment and other resources.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university/college and a minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing or maintenance leadership role OR;
  • A high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing or maintenance leadership role.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Background in manufacturing (strongly preferred but not required)
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing concepts and continuous improvement practices
  • Experience managing or working within automated production environments
  • Exposure to work-in-process (WIP) management or material flow concepts
  • Supervised or managed in a heavily automated industry
  • Ability and willingness to work off-shifts as required
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Power Point, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience using corrective action tools and techniques
