Sheet Metal Foreman - Manufacturing & Production

Job Overview Metal Worx Manufacturing is seeking an experienced, hands-on Sheet Metal Foreman to oversee daily manufacturing operations at our Escondido facility. We are an established precision sheet metal manufacturing and welding company undergoing an ownership and leadership transition. Our longtime shop leader, who has managed manufacturing operations for 25 years, will be retiring at the end of January 2027. We are looking for a qualified professional who can join our team immediately, work directly alongside our current shop leader, learn our existing processes and customer requirements, and gradually assume responsibility for day-to-day manufacturing operations. This is a hands-on technical and supervisory position. The ideal candidate must be comfortable reviewing engineering drawings, evaluating manufacturing requirements, creating shop travelers, managing material and product inventory, obtaining vendor quotations, scheduling production, assigning work to shop-floor employees, and conducting quality checks on finished products. Responsibilities 1. Engineering Review & Manufacturing Planning Review customer engineering drawings, specifications, and purchase orders. Evaluate customer designs for manufacturability. Determine the materials, equipment, tooling, and processes required to manufacture each part. Identify discrepancies in customer drawings, specifications, or purchase orders. Coordinate with customers to clarify technical and manufacturing requirements. Plan the manufacturing sequence for each production job. 2. Shop Travelers & Work Instructions Create and maintain detailed shop travelers for manufacturing jobs. Prepare manufacturing instructions, job packets, and production routings. Determine the sequence of operations, including cutting, punching, forming, welding, grinding, and finishing. Ensure accurate part numbers, drawing revisions, quantities, and material specifications. Provide clear manufacturing instructions to machine operators and shop-floor employees. 3. Material Purchasing & Vendor Quotations Review customer purchase orders to determine raw material requirements. Calculate material quantities needed for each manufacturing job. Check existing inventory before requesting or purchasing additional materials. Request quotations from material suppliers and outside processing vendors. Compare vendor pricing, material availability, and delivery lead times. Coordinate material purchasing to meet production schedules. Follow up with vendors regarding quotations, order confirmations, and deliveries. Verify that purchased materials meet customer specifications and manufacturing requirements. 4. Product & Material Inventory Management Maintain accurate inventory records for raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished products. Monitor stock levels and material availability. Track material usage and allocation to manufacturing jobs. Identify shortages and initiate material replenishment. Coordinate receiving and verification of incoming materials. Maintain organized inventory and accurate product records in the company's inventory management system. Help reduce excess inventory, material waste, and unnecessary purchasing. 5. Production Scheduling & Shop-Floor Supervision Plan and schedule daily manufacturing activities. Assign jobs to machine operators, welders, fabricators, and other shop-floor employees. Communicate manufacturing priorities, job instructions, and delivery deadlines. Monitor job progress and ensure work is completed efficiently and accurately. Troubleshoot manufacturing problems and provide technical guidance. Coordinate workflow between production operations. Ensure jobs are completed according to customer specifications and delivery requirements. 6. Customer Orders & Job Coordination Review incoming customer purchase orders and confirm manufacturing requirements. Coordinate job preparation from customer PO receipt through production completion.
