Senior Transportation Planner

Location: Elwood, IL, US, 60421 Job Description Stepan is seeking a Sr Transportation Planner to join our Transportation team in Joliet, IL. In this role, the candidate will report to the Transportation Operations Team Lead. The Sr. Transportation Planner secures services from transportation providers to meet company and customer shipping requirements. This team member will use SAP and TMS (transportation management systems) to plan and optimize transportation shipments. This role will also cover after-hours Transportation with a rotating schedule. This candidate will be required to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support other supply chain functions to ensure the successful execution of supplying material to our customers. The Sr Transportation Planner will need to acquire diverse knowledge regarding the Transportation needs in and out of all Stepan Manufacturing Sites, tollers, Trans loaders, and our Outside Warehouses across North America. Key Responsibilities: Effectively manage carrier selection utilizing the Transportation Management System (TMS) o Follow the current carrier rt guide while meeting the requirements and objectives of our customers and manufacturing sites. o Proficiency in executing load tendering processes with timely follow up. o Able to create effective plans to meet customer service requirements at the optimal cost. o Collaborate with Stepan Manufacturing sites to ensure takeaway needs are met by utilizing carrier tanker trlr’s or containers through preloading, forward staging, or providing interplant options. Address all assignment-specific shipment events and problem solve resolution with internal and external stakeholders (Carriers, PPIC, Customer Service, Plants, Tollers, Trans loaders, and Outside Warehouses). Able to understand freight performance measures, support investigation, and provide feedback on carrier performance. o Monitors and actively engages in carrier performance to drive high service metrics. Reviews and approves exception accessorial charges in real time by adding surcharge notes at the shipment level for clear visibility for our finance team. Participates in a rotating schedule covering after hrs Transportation Supervise, optimize, and execute specialized business Qualifications TMS/SAP experience preferred. Liquid Bulk Experience preferred. Strong skills in Microsoft Office Applications Excellent written and oral communication skills Ability to work cohesively with multiple teams and develop solutions by engaging internal and external stakeholders. Education 3-5 years’ relevant experience required; 5-7 years’ experience preferred. High School Diploma Required, bachelor’s degree preferred. Pay Range: $56,000 - $76,000 The salary range for this position is determined by considering a variety of factors such as skills, experience, qualifications, and the location of the position.
