Senior Procurement Specialist is responsible for supporting both the day-to-day procurement activities and the strategic development of assigned categories, suppliers, and resale products. This role ensures timely material availability, strong supplier follow-up, cost control, and smooth collaboration between Procurement, Yard, Logistics, Customer Service, Finance/Accounts Payable, Operations, and external vendors.
The person in this role will combine strong execution with a strategic mindset: managing purchase orders and supplier communication while also leading product launches, supplier evaluations, cost reviews, process improvements, and cross-functional project implementation. As a senior member of the Procurement team, this person will also mentor junior buyers, drive category strategies, and play a key role in high-impact sourcing decisions and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Purchasing
- Analyze and process purchase orders generated by the ERP system or requested by operations.
- Follow up with vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials to Techo-Bloc sites.
- Communicate delays, shortages, supply risks, or delivery changes to the appropriate internal stakeholders.
- Support urgent operational needs while maintaining proper purchasing controls and documentation.
- Work with suppliers to resolve order confirmations, pricing discrepancies, backorders, lead time concerns, and delivery issues.
Strategic Buying & Supplier Management
- Develop and maintain strong supplier relationships for assigned categories and locations.
- Participate in supplier evaluations, cost reviews, and sourcing discussions for new or existing materials.
- Support negotiation activities by analyzing pricing, landed cost, quality, service level, and delivery performance.
- Identify opportunities to reduce costs, improve service, optimize inventory, and strengthen supplier performance.
- Act as an advisory partner to internal stakeholders on procurement-related files and projects within the assigned scope.
- Lead end-to-end sourcing events, including RFQs, RFPs, and competitive bid analyses for assigned categories.
- Mentor and support junior buyers in day-to-day purchasing activities, supplier interactions, and process adherence.
Cross-Functional Coordination & Project Management
- Coordinate with Yard, Logistics, Customer Service, Distribution, Finance, and Accounts Payable to support material availability, delivery planning, billing accuracy, and product launch readiness.
- Lead or support cross-functional procurement projects such as new product launches, supplier transitions, system implementations, and process improvements.
- Define priorities, timelines, deliverables, and ownership with internal stakeholders and external vendors.
- Track progress, communicate risks or blockers, and drive follow-up to keep initiatives moving forward.
- 5 to 8 years of experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, distribution, manufacturing, or a related operational environment.
- Experience with an ERP system such as Microsoft Dynamics 365, Microsoft AX, SAP, or similar is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of purchasing processes, supplier follow-up, inventory availability, and operational priorities.
- Ability to analyze cost, lead time, delivery performance, and supplier information to support business decisions.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with suppliers and cross-functional teams.
- Bilingualism in French and English is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional projects, supplier negotiations, or category management initiatives.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office tools, especially Excel.
